A new perspective of the geopolitical globe

This explains a lot.

As I’ve said before, I don’t believe that Trump actually holds all the positions that he espouses on the podium. In fact, probably only a few politicians do: elections are all too often reduced to personality contests where the person who managed to say the things the audience most wanted to hear gets to win. The outrageous thing is not that this man says the things he does, or that this appeals to some people – it’s that people believe any of it.

Cartoon reactions to the Brussels bombings

There have been various cartoons and tw**ted artwork about the Brussels bombings, and Grania and I have collected a few below:

Many of the cartoons feature the famous “Mannekin Pis” (“little dude pees”) statue erected in Brussels in 1618/1619:

And of course many feature Tintin, the beloved reporter/detective who combed the world for malfeasance with his dog Snowy. Characteristically, Salon has objected that these cartoons are inappropriate because Tintin’s creator, Hergé, had a “reactionary and racist history,” and, indeed, I’ve seen blacks depicted as invidious stereotypes in the comic. Still . . .  is this a time to carp about that? It took only a day for the Authoritarian Lefists who populate Salon to tell us who we could and could not use to memorialize the murder victims. This is virtue signalling, but of course Salon is the model for that.

The New Adventures of Angry Cat Man

Learning that I had been called “Angry Cat Man” by faculty at the Lab School because of what I write on my website, reader Pliny the in Between produced an appropriate cartoon, whose title is given in the header.

Friday: Hili Dialogue (and diverse lagniappe)

Out in New Mexico, reader Linda Calhoun is experiencing environmental anomalies, and asked me to pose a question to readers who like birds. To wit:

I would like to hear from my fellow WEIT birders if possible.

Questions:  Are you experiencing unusual weather in your area?  And if you are, is it affecting what you’re seeing at your bird feeders?

It has been VERY warm here.  The juncos are almost gone, the pine siskins are completely gone, and I’m already seeing goldfinches, which don’t usually show up on their way through until mid to late April.

Just a few notes on March 4. On this day in 1519 Hernan Cortés landed in Mexico, soon to wreak havoc on the locals. In 1789 the first U.S. Congress met in New York City, making the Constitution and Bill of Rights (including freedom of/from religion and freedom of expression) into law. And, in 1837, the City of Chicago was incorporated! Births on this day included Knute Rockne (1888) and Rick Perry (1950); deaths included those of Nikolai Gogol (1852), Knut Ångström (1910), and Minnie Pearl (1996, “How-DEEE!”). Meanwhile in Dobrzyn, Hili looks very suspicious about philosophy, though I’m not sure she’s actually read Plato:

Cats! Cats! Cats!

To end off the day, here’s  little something that Matthew sent Jerry:  15 hilarious comic strips every cat owner will understand.

My personal favorite is this one from Jeffrey Brown Comics who perfectly captures their ineffable cuteness and whimsical bloodthirsty ways.
