I realize the squirrel can be mistaken for just a hole… but it’s a squirrel shaped hole, in the center of the pic… with high contrast to the surrounding snow…

Exactly. Saw the sq hole immediately, but since no further details discernible I just quit.
Since I have occasionally observed that my color-blindness has made it difficult for me to even see the red oval, I saw the oval just fine this time. Of course, I had also spotted the squirrel with no problem.

I have an apparently ideal observation post for squirrel-watching. What’s bothering me at the moment is that I think I may be seeing “my” squirrels go from the expected two litters annually to three. Is anyone else noticing a similar trend? It’s quite bothersome, as are the oaks in full bud by February. Which of course the squirrels go “nuts” over.
