I just learned that the new president of the British Humanist Association is the Iranian/British comedian Shappi Khorsandi, and I much regret not having met her at my Darwin Day talk (I don’t think she was there). Philomena’s in danger!

She’s very funny!
She’s great! I’m a fan already. 😀
😃
I was just going to try a quick sample, and wound up sitting thru the entire thing!
Shappi is a fine comedian. Weirdly we have another Anglo-Iranian stand-up comedian, omid djalili, who is extremely funny. YouTube of course.
“extremely funny”
– I think he is absolute garbage and annoying when he does that stupid native dance skit every 2 minutes during his boring, unfunny set. (No, I did not just check him out on YT, I know him already).
I don´t wont to be a downer but, i have to say that even though shappi is mildy funny, it seems that (almost) every joke comes down to her Iranian heritage? i have watched several video of her on YT from a variety of different venues, and it becomes kind of meh when all her jokes fall on this fact.

The floaty pink thing is the Meme of Evolution (don’t ask.)
Very funny. And almost speaks English.
Uh, she is a British citizen and has lived in Britain most of her life. She probably speaks English better than you do.
soob
Great, but Philomena’s humor is more clever…
agreed, she is a more refined, and milder version of sacha baren cohen in her interview stylings.
This was a delight and again I’d never have seen it except that you directed our attention to this clip.
The comparison I make between Shappi and Philomena is that they are wonderfully different. Viva variation. I’m glad we have both of them.
I marvel, by the way, the way Shappi came out and took control of the stage. It always amazes me.
I hope to hear her sometime in her humanist position.
Just google her name and “humanism”. She’s been interviewed once in The Humanist, and also wrote an article about it. The new interview notes what she hopes to accomplish as president of the BHA.
i think its great that she is president of the bha.
didnt know that about her!
This is great, fun, news! Always liked her!
I see no rational reason why you can’t have both, PCC(E).
I love all ten of my cats equally, yet each one differently. (The 11th passed away on Monday. I’m still grieving for him.)
I’m sorry for the loss of your cat. . .
Thank you, Jerry….
She’s woonderful
I’m trying to create my PCC(E) scorecard. There were 2 female comedians.
* Sarah Silverman, the future Mrs. PCC(E)
* Philomena (her seductive way of saying “monnkeey” makes evolutionists swoon)
So is Shappi vying for the official atheist comedian slot with Philomena?
Silverman’s an atheist too. . .
isn´t she a secular Jew? it´s possible to be both. 😉
one of her sisters is actually a Rabbi.
I’m both.
In fact, I consider them to be the same thing.
correction: Sarah Silverman is the Official Website Comedian™.
Yes, but I may have to appoint a Joint Website Comedian.
Would that person have to smoke cannabis … ?
/@
Well, both Shappi and Sarah have, the latter often. I don’t know about Philomena, but she does drink gin-and-tonics with Sambucas.
Philomena could be the Flaming Website Comedian™ then!

She did the BHA London comedy Darwin Day event the following day at the Conway Hall! And yes she is LOVELY! Intelligent & funny – a winmning combination 🙂
Why wasn’t I invited to that comedy event? I’m STEAMED!
This is the first time I’m hearing of Shappi. She’s great!
