On this day in history, according to Wikipedia, in 321 “Emperor Constantine I decrees that the dies Solis Invicti (sun-day) is the day of rest in the Empire.” On this day in 1965, it was “Bloody Sunday” in Selma, Alabama, when a group of 600 civil rights marchers were attacked by police (see the excellent move “Selma” for a reenactment). Births on March 7 include John Herschel (1792), Luther Burbank (1849), David Baltimore (1938), and Bret Easton Ellis (1964). Those who died on this day include Alice B. Toklas (1967), Stanley Kubrik (1999), and Gordon Parks (2006). It’s Teacher’s Day in Albania (any Albanian readers out there?)
Meanwhile in Dobrzyn, Hili is objecting to Andzej’s drinking milk with 0% fat: not suitable for a hungry cat!:
Hili: Are you really drinking this white water?A: It’s very tasty.Hili: (to herself) He’s gone mad.(Photo: Sarah Lawson)
Hili: Ty naprawdę pijesz, tę białą wodę?
Ja: Jest bardzo smaczna.
Hili: (do siebie) On zwariował.(Zdjęcie: (Sarah Lawson)
Out in Winnipeg, Gus is detailing the corners of his box. It’ll be gone soon, and I have no idea why he does this. The vet says that swallowing a bit of cardboard is ok, as it gives Gus “fiber”:
Finally the Dark Tabby of Wroclawek is reading, for everyone in his household reads.
Leon: It’s raining. What should I read today?

O, Hili, I quite agree !
I went back to 4% (“whole” in USA & often red – top) milk about a decade ago — after studying reports on humans’ actually intaking far less amounts of harmful fats — .when. their intake of dairy contained the essential fatty acids.
This situation may not be healthful for all, but I so enjoy drinking milk again. From the countryside as a kiddo, I had had real cow’s cream – lattes as a three – year – old / four – year – old (per Daddy cuz Mama never knew he was slipping me coffee !). It has been a return to darling nostalgia and likely one which I shall not give up again.
And our upwards of 15 – to – 20 barn kitty cats (at any one time) when I was a babe in the 1950s ? O my! Did they ever loooove their Daddy’s Guernsey outpourings into their cast – iron skillets every morning and evening !

Isn’t this — http://www.bonniemohr.com/store/foster-mothers-of-the-human-race.html — a lovely depiction, Ms Hili ?! Was commissioned as a y2011 anniversary front cover for a quite well – known North American dairying journal.
I would wager that longtime Minnesotan Artist Mohr also meant ” … … of the Felidae Race” as well, not ? !

Is the furry Princess aware that Gus & Leon are quietly infiltrating her spot as Top Cat?! 🙂
Hili knows that she will always be the Princess!
Perhaps to a cat, cardboard is the same as bubble pack is to people.
😀 Excellent analogy
“It was in the reign of King George III that the aforesaid personages lived and quarreled; good or bad, handsome or ugly, rich or poor, they are all equal now.”
Stanley Kubrick — In Memoriam.
Hili and Leon look a bit down today, possibly because last night was the finale Downton Abbey. We may all take up eating cardboard.
I have a minor Gordon Parks connection. My father was in New Orleans making photos and saw Gordon Parks photographing the same “Jazz” funeral, very close to him. He learned a trick from Parks — Parks used his Rolleiflex camera over his head looking straight up into the focusing screen to “look” over the crowd with his camera.
My Dad and then I have done this ever since. Newer digital cameras having tilting viewing screens that make this very easy.
That old Rollei (I still have it!) was good for candids — point it sideways and generally people didn’t notice your attention on them.
My grandmother always called skim milk “blue john” and thought it unfit for human consumption! She always drank whole milk and had cream on her cereal. She lived to age 95 so she may have been onto something!
I think Leon’s message is clear: He’d prefer something a bit more Rococo, or perhaps Chippendale. His own rather Moderne head notwithstanding, this angular Swedish box thing is just not his style.
note that the cats seem often to be sitting on an eating surface . . . dogs, not so much
A dietician, an architect, and a bibliophile! What classy cats we have here!
