But I’m not sure I understand it. There is the usual theological back-and-forth, and Mo is right about what many Christians believe, but what is going on about the night? Did Jesus make it beautiful or something?
The point is that Jesus is taking credit for the night being beautiful. Hence, he is again implying that he is God.

I think Jesus is implicitly claiming credit for the existence of nighttimes at all, thereby identifying with a creator.
Did Jesus make it beautiful or something? It sounds like he is talking about his creation, which suggests that he is the creator. In a sense darkness is what religion offers. The light comes from outside.

Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that Jesus was created by God, but was not divine Himself. In my youth, I read some Jehovah’s Witness books in my search for Truth, and that stood out as it contradicted what I had been brought up to believe.

I get the Father and Son part but what the heck is the Holy Ghost? That bit always confuses me.
“Ghost” originally just meant “spirit.” So “the holy spirit” is the third “person” of the trinity. Still doesn’t explain how the heck God is “three persons,” though.

I agree with the interpretation that Jesus in the strip is slyly referring to himself as being the creator, i.e. God. Subtle indeed!

This is very interesting. I suppose I should have known that “Even if I do say so myself” is an exclusively British idiom. It’s a way to excuse a boast. We Brits are uncomfortable about blowing our own trumpet (is that another one?), so feel the need to add a bit of self-deprecation when we do. I thought today’s strip was pretty funny, even if I do say so myself.
No, it’s not an exclusively British idiom. I’m not British and I’ve used it all my life, and heard it used many times before, and I was under the impression that it is well known in the US. Perhaps there is regional variation? FWIW, the meaning of the strip was clear to me. Quite humorous!
Similarly, I am under the impression that “blowing your own trumpet”, or as it is perhaps more commonly phrased in the US, “blowing your own horn”, is also widely understood here.
It is a common American saying as well.
“Even if do Say so Myself” obviously implies that he, himself, is God, a modest self effacing retort.
A person says “I am the Universe.” Another person says “BS. You are incidental and unimportant.” OK but only if one arbitrarily decides this is where “I” ends and “not I” begins. It won’t give anyone magical powers but it does offer a fresh new outlook on the relative importance of things.
