They’ve revamped Midway Airport, and there are also multiple precautions in place for travelers, including plexiglas partitions in front of all the officials, and constant sanitation of tables and seats (at the current time I’m drinking coffee at a distance from everyone, which requires me to take off my mask).
My passage through TSA, using their PreCheck feature, was uneventful: all I had to do was remove my belt and my cellphone. My posterior did not light up yellow on the screen, I didn’t get groped (mirable dictu!) and I was through the luggage station in about two minutes.
For a Monday, the airport is almost deserted—at least compared to what I’m used to.
I found it hard to sleep after 1 a.m. and so am exhausted. A large coffee and a nap on the plane should help. If all goes well, I’ll be eating BBQ before 2 pm.
Cheers!

Happy trails! I keep thinking how surreal it would be to travel.
Enjoy!
Have fun and be careful!
Happy trails and safe travels! Give my regards to my alma mater. I vote for the Franklin barbeque. I went to a wedding rehearsal dinner there for my friend’s daughter (an Austin native) a few years ago. Ah, the good old days!
Have a great time! I’m envious but very happy for you. Hope to see juicy pics!
Bon voyage et bon appetit!
Ditto!
Have a wonderful and safe adventure, Jerry! Looking forward to the gastronomic details and photos.
Congrats on the smooth sailing through TSA! Happy BBQing and booting!
Have fun, eat well, post pics and commentary.
I’ll be interested to hear your observations on mask use in TX compared to Chicago.
Maybe the Pfizer vaccine removed that pesky yellow of your butt.
I’m hoping my first upcoming trip is just as eventuful!
I just have to say that I’m very, very happy for you. Unreasonably so. Either you’ve had enormously bad luck over the years (I’ve never been groped by the TSA), or you were on some list from which you’ve now been removed. Either way, congratulations on your butt remaining unfondled (I know that’s not a word, but “unmolested” somehow didn’t seem appropriate).
Oh I (used to) get felt up at JFK Airport pretty much every trip – many people do. it isn’t terrible (I live alone). 😉
I’m looking forward to my next feel and flight which might be awhile.
Have a great trip prof and bon appetite!

NYC
Hey, I’d rather get felt up by the TSA right now than do whatever else I’m doing. At least I would be going somewhere nice! I had a reservation to fly to Florida and spend a week at a gorgeous resort/spa in May 2020, but of course that was nixed by COVID. Was going to be my first real vacation (meaning without my family) in about ten years. Sigh. I hope to go early next year…
