Did you find it? Here’s the original picture by Siggy, followed by the reveal, and then a photo of the insect on the lumber where he found it and on the lichen it seems to mimic.

I found this PDF that seems to describe the same species as this as Lichenomorphus berezini.

Clever little fellow.
That’s downright unfair!
That was really a good one! I especially like the twisted antennae. Straight antennae were part of my katydid search image when I was looking for this. Probably also part of the search images of the birds that hunt for bugs on these branches.
is that a katydid on the katydid on the 2nd shot or a bug on the bug? but you really got us going there. took two of us and we gave up and cheated.
I found it! That was the only place with scallops, not ruffles. But Lou’s comment threw me off.
Beautiful camo. I got it from the leg, and the edge of the body. But this was a difficult one.
I agree with Lou in general, the kinks in the antennae are sneaksy. But not that important in this shot, where I can’t even see them.
I’m glad you guys enjoyed the images. I’d never seen one of these before, I just got lucky that it was on some boards I had painted the day before. But the resemblance to the lichen was so obvious I figured it must be camoflage. After I put it on the appropriate lichen it nibbled on it after getting its bearings and then proceeded to wander about on the lichen till it found a place it liked. Now that I know that these are out there I’m going to keep an eye out. These might be fairly common, but never noticed. That type of lichen is very common and fast growing.
