Why Evolution is True is a blog written by Jerry Coyne, centered on evolution and biology but also dealing with diverse topics like politics, culture, and cats.
And since Ratzinger was aiding and abetting, he is already the saint of pedophilia. :-/
That would be appropriate, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Ratzinger is not going to make it to Saint Rat. I don’t think much of anyone likes him all that well.
I was thinking the same title. Also, saint of abstinence as AIDS control in Africa,
A breathtakingly cynical PR exercise, a pathetic attempt to divert attention from the priest pedophilia scandal. When the heat was really on the Catholic Church in Australia about 5 years ago, when it seemed every week another priest was being named as a serial abuser, A MIRACLE! out pops the first home-grown Aussie saint, Mary MacKillop. Kept the media distracted for a while.
Nice try Franky, but when this double-act saint-o-mania dies down, your endless procession of frocked-up child abusers will be taking back the headlines.
Now he can blissfully ignore it for all eternity.
What, he died? I swear I remember the whole Catholic world praying for him when he was sick; I can’t believe that didn’t restore him to perfect health. I mean, over a billion prayers, when only one should have been more than enough. Can someone explain this??!!
“God answers every prayer, and sometimes the answer is ‘No.'”
Which makes the saint thing all the more puzzling
The church gets what it deserves.
Sure, but what about the victims of the church?
Unfortunately, the church has set things up in such a perversely distorted manner that their victims generally receive the punishments that the church actually deserves for their crimes against humanity.
How many priests do you think are terrified about being molested (again)? If the public actually realized the con jobs that the churches have propagated over the centuries with their 100% false promises, churches would not even exist. It was a relatively superb con job for the churches to invent a mythical disease that everyone allegedly has, and which only the church can cure (after suitable payments are made, of course).
The BBC described the event as ‘humble’.
Yeah – claiming the authority to create demigods from mortal humans shows humility.
The Romans used to do the same thing to their dead emperors–there’s a story that when one was on his deathbed, he cracked, “Lucky me; I’m becoming a god.” I wonder if Popes think the same thing in their final moments.
Do any of these motherfuckers even think it’s a problem? Or, at least, anything other than something for some PR flack to write an heartfelt press release about?
I most emphatically include the latest Poop, who has yet to even hint at pretending to cooperate with any of the uncountable criminal investigations against the motherfucking child fucking rapists he’s still sheltering at the fucking Vatican.

What a weird and frankly depressing world Catholicism represents. I have no idea what to make of it.
Now, now, now. There’s no evidence JP2 ignored the allegations of abuse by priest. In fact, it’s well known he got furious with the American priests…for not having better control over the media, so that these stories wouldn’t rep leaking out.
