        1. And there I was thinking that no-one else would appreciate my plans to write a coffee-pot controlling module for our seismic-mapping system.

          1. Oh there are even RFCs for this:
            RFC 2324 Hyper Text Coffee Pot Control Protocol (HTCPCP/1.0)
            and
            RFC 2325 Definitions of Managed Objects for Drip-Type Heated Beverage Hardware Devices using SMIv2

          2. I had heard of those RFCs, along with the ones for IP over an Avian physical transport layer, though I hadn’t got as far as reading them.
            Incidentally, did it ever occur to you why the subject matter of RFC 1918 was covered in RFC 1918? (It may be coincidence, but I doubt it.)

  2. Just wait ’til you infidels show up at the pearly gates and Lassie is standing guard.

  3. Our Cat, Who art in ceiling
    Hallowed be Thy Name;
    Thy kingdom come,
    Thy will be done,
    by humans as it is in heaven.
    Give us this day our daily obligation,
    and forgive us our trespasses,
    as you may forgive those who trespass against us;
    and lead us not to the d*gs,
    but deliver us from such evil. Amen.

  4. On the rat side of the equation, there is this: “You want proof evolution is for real, don’t waste your time with fossils; just check out the New York City rat. They started out as immigrants, stowaways in some ship’s cargo hold. Only the survivors got to breed, and they’ve been improving with every new litter. Smarter, faster, stronger. Getting ready to rule. Manhattan wouldn’t be the first island they took over.” — Andrew Vachss, Another Life

  5. Winston, Halle-bear…are you comfy? Care for an extra treat? Anything more I can do for you tonight?

  6. Loved “Fluffy’s Wager.” 😀

    Also–this brings new meaning to “His eye is on the sparrow…”
