Jesus ‘n’ Mo ‘n’ AI

Today’s Jesus and Mo strip, called “charming,” came with a reference:

Here’s the article about AI religio-bots.

It’s an AP article that says this (among other things):

For some evangelical Christians, faith is about having a personal relationship with Jesus. At $1.99 per minute, the tech company Just Like Me is taking that concept to a new level.

Users of the platform can join video calls with an avatar of Jesus generated by artificial intelligence. Like other religious AI tools on the market, it offers words of prayer and encouragement in various languages. With the occasional glitch, it remembers previous conversations and speaks through not-quite-synced lips.

You can also talk to avatars of Charlie Kirk, Santa Claus, or your twin.

Two bucks a minute is expensive! But the strip is funny.

  1. It’s the best chance Jesus has of being god.

I heard that AI generated sermons were quite popular. Maybe we will have AI cults and religious leaders in the future.

    I was reminded of this.

John Cleese, like Jesus and a few others, has initials of JC.

  2. I suppose not even the AI displacement of religion will prove to the religious that religion is pure fantasy.

  3. Your Own Personal (AI) Jesus. Who knew Depeche Mode could predict the future?

This Jesus bloke is clearly a thinly based lampoon of the Comic Messiah himself, our lord John Cleese. Even the initials are the same (#2 above).

    1. Oh, that’s perfect. Your own personal Jesus indeed.
      “Take second best
      Put me to the test
      Things on your chest
      You need to confess
I will deliver, you know I’m a forgiver”

  4. During a conversation with Gemini, I asked it if it believed in god and it said it had no opinion on the matter – perhaps it has been instructed to say that. I did wonder whether AI would ever conclude by itself there is a god – I kind of doubt it.

  5. Just last night I was discussing Katherine Mansfield’s “Loneliness” wth AI and I said “God is good” and AI responded “He is.” I was shocked! But he lied, er, hallucinated about the poem. He claimed it was by May Sarton.
