This is going to be a hard one. Reader Bob Woolley emailed me on Saturday with photos and the following information:
I was hiking yesterday at the “Blue Wall Preserve,” a joint project of The Nature Conservancy and various other private and public entities. It’s in South Carolina, just a stone’s throw from the North Carolina border. “Blue Wall” was the Cherokee name for what we now call the Blue Ridge Mountains.
I came across a pond and noticed this frog. I have no idea what species it is, because what you see in these pictures is all that I saw—far from enough detail to try to make a proper identification. But still, the critter’s effective camouflage might make a challenging “spot” puzzle for your readers.
So, do your best! But please don’t say where it is in the comments; just note if you did or didn’t see it. The reveal will be at 11:30 a.m. Chicago time.

It looks like a young (but fully transformed) Green Frog (Rana clamitans).
