O, those sunk cost effects.
Calls to mind Dennett’s quote: “There’s simply no polite way to tell people they’ve dedicated their lives to an illusion.”
I think about that quote quite often these days.
I’ll grant that people can choose to be religious for any number of reasons (and it is a choice, despite various claims to be “called” by god or simply to “see the light”) this strip illustrates that in the end the real foundational factors beneath the religious impulse are, in fact, fear and confusion.
