Chat GPT caricature

UPDATE: I’ve added a new caricature which has both ducks and cats (at bottom).

Just to see how much ChatGPT knows about me, I gave it this task:

Draw a caricature of Jerry Coyne based on everything you know about him (including his love of ducks).

I also included a picture of myself.  I have to say that it did a good job, though there are too many ducks (next time I’ll add cats).  Grok is not nearly as good as Chat GPT for drawing, but I was still surprised at the amount of information about me that the bot can trawl from the Internet.

  1. That is … I mean … Christmas lights, an evening winter scene, and … Santa Platyrhynchos?!? …

Puts a smile on my face for sure – and all relevant phalanges are accounted for!… aaaaand yep .. The Selfish Gene too.

Is that book title a take on Plato’s The Republic…?

  2. That is scarily good! It’s amazing how much information there is out there about some people.

I’ve used Gemini for graphics, but my sis has done amazing stuff on Chat GPT so I think I’ll try it.

  3. Where’s the pint of Timothy Taylor’s Landlord?

Edited to add: I love the “Duck the Halls” snow globe. And, yes, where are the cats?

  4. What’s with the 2 books “Talking about leaves” and “The new republic of science”?
Did Jerry write these? Or was the author another person with family name Coyne?

Outside of the window, in the winter landscape, there is a duck on a frozen pond. Is that for real? Don’t ducks migrate to warmer climes in autumn?

Did I miss the cats or any reference to cats in the picture? This looks like a major oversight. Might as well have put a dog slumbering in front of Jerry in the picture.

Faith vs Fact 2.0? Is there a second edition of this book? Not to my knowledge.

    1. No. I used to write for the New Republic before it went belly-up, but those are made-up book titles.
Some ducks do stay around all winter.
I have a new one with a cat in it but haven’t posted it yet.
And nope, no new editions of any of my books.

  5. That’s excellent. If we sent Christmas/New Year cards these days that’d be yours.

Amazing how – although the pic is goofy – which I like – the words –kinda– encapsulate your public life.

I’ll try one of these on myself.
    …………if I dare!

  6. I like the second picture more. Jerry’s likeness is closer to Jerry. Both cats and ducks – check. The book The end of faith is not by Richard Dawkins, but by Sam Harris. Point deducted.

But ChatGPT can’t beat the real thing: Jerry climbing bare-chested in the Death Valley – now that’s a cool picture (“but not in a gay way”, as Graham Platner would say).

I guess Jerry is too modest to put that photo up again. But I saw it on WEIT! I should have saved it.

  7. These give me the uneasy feeling of Thomas Kinkade paintings – obviously the subject matter is different, but the style seems similar.

  8. I really like the second one with the cats in it – especially the boss-cat in the centre!
And Today’s Agenda is going up on my desk.

It could have dressed Jerry (in the second, more summery scene) in one of his beloved and colourful Hawaian shirts.

The End of Faith, of course, is by Sam Harris, not Dawkins . . . nothing serious!

  9. I primarily use AI (usually Gemini), to dress my cats up for different holidays, since they’d kill me if I tried to wrangle them into costumes in real life.
