Jesus ‘n’ Mo ‘n’ question-begging

Today’s Jesus and Mo strip, called “relaying“, came with the sentence, “it all makes perfect sense.” And it does, if you accept Mo’s tortured logic.  More than anyone else, Mo’s behavior defines the original meaning of “begging the question” (“assuming that which is to be proved”) rather than the current and debased meaning (‘raising the question”):

    1. When your Mum says it’s true, it really is true. At least as far as you are concerned.

      1. She inadvertently raised a “why” on everything kid. We had a routine that drove both of us crazy. I’d ask permission and she’d automatically say no. I’d ask why and argue with any reason she gave. She’d revert to because, etc. One of my younger brothers just forgot to ask permission. Then apologized for forgetting to ask. Problem solved. My stupidity makes me metaphorically bang my head against the wall to this day 60+ years later.

  1. Talking in circles, anyone?

It also makes me think of the line of “reasoning”, very popular these days, that goes:
It’s true because I said it is true. And I said it is true because I want it to be true. And what I want is the only thing that matters.

  2. Thank you for this:

I’m so tired of the current and debased usage —
