Changes on this site, #2

Because WordPress is changing its editors, I’ve had to use a new plug-in to retain my beloved “classic” editing format to make it compatible with my website design. But because that design format is obsolete, it produces glitches, and I’m working on them. In the end, the only way to really fix this is to redesign the site using a new template that’s compatible with what I already have. (And that will fix it only until Dec. 31, 2020, when we’re all forced to use a new editor.)

I’m not competent to fix most stuff, so if there are some good people out there with technical and artistic abilities, and good computer savvy, I’d be willing to pay them to help with this endeavor. Please email me if you’re interested. (There’s also a “block editor” that will be forced on us in 18 months, but I won’t worry about that now.) I’m very serious about this, as I need some competent help. Fees negotiable.

Now, the changes:

  1. The blue-star “like” buttons are appearing at the bottom of each comment. Readers seem to like them, so I have no beef with that.
  2. For the time being, at least one reader has reported that videos within Tweets don’t work on my site. I haven’t heard of this from any other readers, but let me know if you have thatissue. In the meantime,  if you have problems and want to see the video (and I hope you do), just click on the tweet and watch the original video in Twitter.  Or use another browser.
  3. The sidebar with the subscription function, search function, and other stuff is still there; it’s just at the bottom of the page or of the post.

Since I’m computer-incompetent, and using an obsolete template, and because WordPress foists changes on us at the last minute, it may take a while for most of these issues to be resolved. Bear with me; I intend to post as usual but a few things will look different in the interim. And remember, the sidebar is still there.

Oh, and anybody who wants to make some dosh helping out, and has the relevant expertise, please contact me!

This is really something. All the comments that were here a minute ago are now gone.

I have the same issue with videos. I usually end up searching for them on Twitter.

Everything is impossibly goofy now. I wouldn’t even know where or how to start explaining the problems I’m having. This is re the second post of “Changes on this site-2”

Wonder if this will show up?

The star glitch and other formatting glitches are gone right now, but I now can’t access your main page. I only got to this post by using a link for an older post and then clicking on this post using the link to it on the left sidebar. When I try to access your main page (via any of the three different URLs), I get the following message: “Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.”

Excellent to see that the rebuild button is back on.

In the past, to embedded tweet, it was often necessary to write [ tweet ] but that is no longer necessary. Same was necessary for YouTube links before one of the recent WordPress changes.

When I use Microsoft office to submit posts to the blog, for tweets to work, sometimes I have to go on to the editor and say yes when it invites the post into blocks. That fixes all the problems with tweets and Facebook links not showing up.

Some of my older links in blog posts stopped working completely and the links disappeared. These were not Twitter or Facebook links with some other links I used for some reason

I should also add that when I changed the appearance of my blog recently, all my widgets and other additions to the blog disappeared and I had to do them again. That included the Twitter feed. But the new appearance was really great and was worth it

Whatever you did it is working fine for now. One day someone will reinvent the keyboard so we don’t have 3 vowels sitting together.

I’m pretty computer literate although my WordPress experience is limited. I’d be willing to help out on an ad hoc and pro bono basis.

I have had the issue with embedded tweets for some time within a chrome browser.  As the link works it hasn’t been an issue.

    Kind regards Malcolm

Hi Jerry, Recently I have had a strange, inconsistent problem with videos that you post. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don’t work. Some times if I come back later in the day they start working. Either all of them work or all don’t work.

PS If I get to Twitter from WEIT the videos have always worked (so far).
