I’m going to follow this quickly with another post, as you might not be able to read it if it’s at the top.
Reader Simon sent me this, and it’s about the funniest thing yet to come out of the shutdown. Below you see a screenshot from an article in The Wall Street Journal.
I hate to say this, but, just for the time being, I’m on the side of the d*g.

Loved it – thanks!
I’ve been on full disability for many years, so my cats don’t know what it’s like to have the house to themselves on a regular basis. My older cat, Isa, prefers to have me around, and I’m always in for a scolding when I come back from an errand or other trip. On 7 April, I was gone for 18 hours working the Wisconsin election, and it took a half hour of intense cuddles to mollify her. My younger cat, Samone, is not as clingy and is more or less indifferent to occasional absences.
I’m with the d*g. Open the economy if they must. I’m not changing anything until there’s a vaccine.
Cats are getting a bad rap, at least some cats. Mine is like E.A. Blair’s older cat, above, absolutely loving her lap time and soaking up hours and hours of it. I also put a box on the floor next to my computer, for those times when I need to get up and down a lot. My wife can’t tolerate her in the bed at night, but back in the days when my wife took the occasional business trip, the bedroom door was open, and that was cat heaven. Of course, she likes some alone time too. She’s still a cat. But she loves the quarantine.
Yeah, I’m sick of the anti-cat propaganda machine! They’re always portrayed as the villains in movies (well, movies where there’s an animal villain), people are always talking about how they’d eat your dead body (they wouldn’t), how they’re standoffish and don’t give a crap about you beyond the fact that you feed them, etc. And I’m sick of all the charities being for dogs and all the sad commercials with Sarah McLachlan singing over pictures of sad animals showing almost exclusively dogs. It’s almost like they throw in a picture or two of cats in those commercials just so they can say they were talking about them too.
And why do they always run those commercials during comedy shows? I hate that. I immediately change the channel because, hey, I’d rather not well up with tears and deep, soul-sucking sadness while I watch reruns of South Park as I clean the house, thank you very much.
I’m way too young to be turning into Andy Rooney…

My cats are like @paultorek’s. They are loving us home.
