If you click on the screenshot below, you’ll see a short documentary on Felix, the Huddersfield (England) station cat. She (yes, Felix is a female) even has a title and her own emergency jacket:
And, of course, her own Facebook page.
If you stop at the station, pet Felix for me, and take a picture if you can.

You can find ANYTHING on the internet, especially if it’s about cats. This story, from BuzzFeed, is about a couple who photographed their cat watching them eat—every day for a full year. I feel sorry for the poor moggie, but the photographs are wistful and sweet. I just hope the cat got a tidbit every once in a while. Here are a few of the many photos on that page:

Japan has more than a dozen “cat islands”, places where cats considerably outnumber people. This one is Aoshima Island, the subject of a photo documentary at The Atlantic (click on link in preceding sentence). Aoshima is a mile-long island, and cats outnumber people six to one. Here’s a video:
The cats look in pretty good nick; I’m sure the residents take good care of them. Some photos from The Atlantic (all by Thomas Peter, Reuters):

Hmmmm. When you look at those cats on Aoshima Island, there’s a certain resemblance. It’s almost as if they pass on characteristics between generations in some sort of related but variable pattern.
Somebody ought to look into that….
I had the same thought. There must be a lot of inbreeding.
Wow, I’m from Huddersfield and see that cat all the time, but I had no idea she had become world famous.
I’m guessing there are no small vertebrates on the island apart from the cats. That’s a lot of predators.

Felix should be Felicia.
Reblogged this on PACIFIC ISLAND BEACON.
I think all of us regular readers of WEIT should have a whip-round to buy our host a holiday home on Aoshima.
I don’t know about a cat just sitting and watching its staff eat, but our current cat will very frequently come in and dine while we’re having dinner – it’s as if it thinks “My people are eating, I guess it’s a good time for me to join them.”
Someone could make a great horror film there:
“People loved cat island, until the cloud from Fukushima arrived…”

‘Radioactive wild boars’ – sounds like a headline from The Onion. But (judging by the article) it’s for real.
The trouble is, 1. They’re breeding unchecked and 2. Being radioactive, you can’t even use them for bacon. Or cat food.

Interesting to see the variation and distribution of coat colors in a freely interbreeding population–mostly orange and white with few grey and black
A friend linked this picture to me today…
Apparently this kitty fell asleep on top of the fridge…
