We had just gotten our big (80 lb) brown mutt of a dog when my granddaughter (now 11) was born. That dog has been part of her entire life so far.
Once when she was about 4, the dog slipped out the door and decided it was a good game to go about 50-100 feet away and wait. She’d let us go to within about 20 feed and run another 100 feet away, and wait. The granddaughter wanted to get her, walked right up to the dog and grabbed the collar, with no attempt to escape. Interesting bond between them.
