Monday: Hili dialogue & Leon lagniappe

Good morning, and welcome back to the working week. Jerry is Somewhere right now, but between his peregrinations and that new modern horror of our age, dodgy Internet, I’m not sure exactly where, but roughly somewhere in Uppsala and then on to Atlanta tomorrow.

Hili underwent the indignity of getting dosed with an anti-tick preparation, much needed in the part of the country where she frolics daily. She was not impressed at all, and you can see the disgust all over her face.

A: You are running in the woods, so you have to have protection against ticks.
Hili: Can’t they just be told not to sit on me?

Hili and tick fluid

In Polish:

Ja: Biegasz po lesie, musisz być zabezpieczona przed kleszczami.
Hili: A nie można im powiedzieć, żeby na mnie nie siadały?

In contrast, Leon is up to his usual antics.

Leon: I’m setting off to hunt.

  1. Didn’t we have that picture the other day?

Poor Hili… but tick are increasing with changes in the climate & the increases in various deer populations in many countries.

  2. The cat we served until she at last reached the end of her ninth life used literally to foam at the mouth when receiving tick prophylaxis. We tried to explain gently that this apparent indignity was part of our curatorial duties, but we still had to swaddle her in a towel to avoid serious injury.

  3. Leon’s perch doesn’t seem to be one of those deep snow outhouses that some people here have for their mountain cabins. Pray tell, what is it?

  4. We don’t have ticks in the Valley of the Sun — at least, not in numbers worth worrying about in the places Baihu and I frequent.

But…the Mustang isn’t all that far from being ready to roll, and we’ll soon be heading farther afield…into tick country.

So I suppose I’ll have to submit him to this indignity as well. Hope he’ll forgive me….

  5. “Peregrinations” has me imagining PCC soaring high above the world, preparing to swoop down at breakneck speed on his next target of investigation.
