Readers’ new kittens

May 4, 2015 • 3:30 pm

So shoot me: I like cats and am perked up by feliniana at the end of the day. Reader “redlivingblue” sent a note with pictures of his two new kittens:

Good morning! I just wanted to share a couple of quick pics of my new kittens. My wife and I named the female Kahleesi  (My wife Dana is quite a Game of Thrones fan), the male Dillinger  (he is adapt at escaping virtually any enclosure ).
My beloved siamese SCSI died just a few months ago. I still miss him terribly!  My wife brought home these new kittens without telling me. They were found in a wall at a construction site by contractors who work for my wife. They are quite wild and it took a couple of days for them to get used to me. Now we are taking cat naps together and I seem to be a member of the gang. I am including a pic of Dillinger playing around my boots to give a sense of scale….

  1. A kitten and a boot like that is almost too much awesome for one picture.

  2. When you lose a cat, nothing seems worse. But you have to get more – it is just part of the deal. Great looking pair.

  3. SQUEEEEEEEE! These are some cuties!

Sorry to hear about your cat SCSI (I love that name!) it’s always sad to lose a beloved family member, but these two kitties make a great new addition to the family.

    1. What we see here is a first-class jerk; someone who wants to rant about cat depredations without even knowing whether these cats will be “outdoor” cats. Mr. Webster, take your ignorant invective and go elsewhere. You will post here no longer, but this post will remain as an example of the kind of uncivil discourse that not only gets someone banned, but marks them as an ass.

  4. Aww! So adorable & your wife is awesome to bring these babies home! They look like they are settling in quite nicely! Condolences on losing your beloved cat SCSI.

  5. Adorable little faces! I suspect there’s no end to the trouble they’ll get into. Fun!

  6. How was SCSI pronounced? Having lost Freddie at Xmas, I mourn with you but know that you will love having these new little scamps around!

  7. This reader also has new kittens. 5 fosters, now 6.5 weeks old (but again bottle-fed since 3 weeks). One is like a smaller, shorter-furred version of the grey and white kitten in these pics.

      1. Yes, and then another litter of four at the end of last year, and now these five, who come from feral cats in the vicinity of our campus. They were retrieved from a nest on campus, as they were in danger of being “pest controlled” by our animal-hating campus caretakers. Unfortunately the mother was not trapped. Kittens are lovely!

        1. How wonderful!! You are a serial “crazy cat lady.” :-). I would find it so hard to give them up. How is Jerry Coyne, DFG doing?

          1. I last saw him in February and he’s doing really well. Still ruling the garden, Master of the hens etc etc, chasing other cats away…

  8. Awww, thanks for the moment of happy!

Such cuties–looks like a mutual rescue, to me. They needed you, and you needed them. 🙂

  9. Thank you all for the kind words! Ben is correct, His name is pronounced “scuzzy”. Btw, the kittens will be inside only cats. Thanks to Jerry for banning the troll who called my babies murders. .. As far as my boots, Jerry stated in a post when he met Dr. Pinker for the first time that cowboy boots are the official footwear of atheists. I wear combat boots, the official footwear of militant atheists…. lolz
