It’s Friday! Which seat can you take? I am taking one across the table from Uncle Dan Dennett, who will no doubt excoriate me over coffee about my views on free will. But that’s okay, for he has no choice. And, at any rate, I don’t expect he’ll convince me of his compatibilism, any more than he’ll convince me that the coffee I’m drinking is really cocoa, which is the Only Kind of Coffee Worth Wanting. Meanwhile in Dobrzyn, Hili is trying to find the Door Into Wonderland:
A: Hili, what are you doing?
Hili: I’m trying to go through the looking glass.
Ja: Hili, co ty robisz?
Hili: Próbuję przejść na drugą stronę lustra.

Mmmmmm, having a nice stretch!
Yes, cats are really good at stretching. We should probably learn from their example.
Looks to me more like Hili’s just returning from Wonderland and is stretching out after a strenuous battle with a bandersnatch. She was victorious, of course; you can see her trophy hanging from the top of the mirror.
Jerry, if you can get Uncle Dan to explain why the juxtaposition of the two words, “free,” and “will,” are suitable to apply together to the phenomenon he refers to, that may be a good start. We have social and Constitutional and similar freedoms, but those freedoms apply to actions, not desires. And you both well know the strength of will required to complete a project as monumental as a book, but there’s no freedom in deciding if you’ll have that strength or not. Not to mention, of course, the ancient and popular history of equating this particular “married bachelor” with the principle excuse for theodicy.
If Uncle Dan has compelling answers to those two or three dilemmas, I might have no choice but to agree with him. But I can’t imagine the circumstances in which I would do so.

You had no choice but to miss those boxes then post about how you missed them. 🙂
No joke! And, believe you me, if I had a choice, I’d’a ticked that damned box the first time!
