  1. That is cute! I feel the same way when there are fresh sheets on the bed! The chipmunk sure is a stretchy little guy (or gal).

  2. Cuteness.

Though I can’t help but wonder whether I’m personifying the chipmunk too much … and an expert in the field would identify those adorable little yawns and stretches of ‘delight’ more prosaically. I’d hate to find out he’s actually exhibiting classic chipmunk signs of stress or fear.

  3. I wonder if this is some kind of scent marking behavior? My cat hates when I take a shower and loves to rub her chin and lips all over my and arms as I am drying off. Since cats have scent glands there, I presume she is marking me because the shower washed off all her scent.

But even if these are both instances of scent marking, there’s no reason to think the animals aren’t enjoying it.

    1. Some form of a reaction to the chemicals used in the washing. We may have found the Chipmunk version of Catnip…

      Cheers,

    2. There’s every reason to think they do enjoy it. They don’t scent-mark as a result of some utilitarian mental calculus; they do it because it feels good. Natural selection does the calculus, and enforces the result using pleasure as a proxy.

  4. I saw that video a few weeks ago and thought it was really cute but couldn’t track down information about the chippie!

  5. Soooo cute. One of my fantasies in the unlikely event I’m ever one of the super rich is fresh sheets every day. I can relate to this guy!

  6. The chipmunk equivalent to a man crawling naked through a woman’s hair.

(Strangely, my cat has the same reaction to …a slab of concrete!)

  7. What this tells me…is that, an hundred million years ago or so, our mutual ancestors would have behaved in much the same way had they had access to a bed with freshly-laundered sheets.

And if that doesn’t give Creationists pause at the paucity of their plot, nothing will.
