Sunday: Hili dialogue

April 20, 2014 • 3:01 am

Hili has her Easter breakfast al fresco:

Hili: We must arrange breakfasts like this for me besides the blooming magnolia more often!
A: Hili, Easter is just once a year.
Hili: Only for believers.

In Polish:
Hili: Musimy mi częściej urządzać takie śniadanie na murku przy kwitnącej magnolii.
Ja: Hili, Wielkanoc jest tylko raz w roku.
Hili: Tylko dla wierzących.

  1. Haha! One of Hili’s best, I think. Happy Easter from my temporary holiday home of Crete, where Easter is fervently celebrated with firecrackers, burning effigies of Judas and whole lambs roasted on spits.

    1. Judas was a lamb?
Well, it makes as much sense as anything else in religion.

    1. I saw that on Ceefax and brought it to the wife’s attention with a comment that “If only it had been the Daniel(s) family.”
Then I had to explain that. Simply not part of her upbringing.

  2. Before Jerry’s recent trip to Poland I had thought of the climate of Central Europe as roughly equivalent to the northern USA. Now I realize it is much milder. Here in Maine there is still one or two feet of snow on the ground. We won’t see any daffodils for another four weeks at the earliest.

    1. A little update on degree (F) days:

      Berlin 5810
      Warsaw 6647
      Duluth, MN 9818
      Bangor, ME 7773

Not as different as I had imagined judging by the flowers Hili is admiring.

  3. And here just south of San Francisco I saw one magnolia blooming in December (admittedly most didn’t bloom until February).

I will note that Eastern and Western Christians normally celebrate Easter on different days (this year is one of the exceptions) so Hili could get two in most years.
