I remember reading this in the Lonely Planet Guide to New Zealand, many years ago (I paraphrase slightly, becuase I don’t have it in front of me):
“It rains frequently on the west coast of the South Island. For you Australian readers: Rain is water falling from the sky.”

Ben: Just finished reading Half Broke Horses, by Jeannette Walls, about her grandmother who lived in NM and AZ in the early and middle 29th century. Really interesting story and nicely written. You might enjoy it.
I think you meant 19th C unless it’s one of those fancy future type books. 😀
