Ja: Niektóre lubią, ale przylatują do nich po pierwszych przymrozkach i jedzą je tylko z tych drzew, na których nie ma kotów.
Hili: Zmartwiłeś mnie.
They look like nice apples. Too many traditional varieties are being lost. I refuse to buy anything that is not an older variety or less common one.
My trees have yielded a lot of apples this year – bug free too, which isn’t always the case! The deer enjoy them either way.
I find woodlice (mainly Porcellio scaber) climb a tree & nibble at apples while they are still on the tree. Cheeky little isopods!
it’s so cute and sobering at the same time to see in a kitty’s eyes the pure, natural wish to crush a bird between it’s teeth until it dies and eat it.
The deer have been enjoying our apple trees all summer long. They have stripped off so many leaves from the smaller trees that the apples are mostly few and small. Not that that stops them from eating the apples too.
The bears are not so subtle. Like Hili, they climb the trees. However, they also knock over or break the trunks of the trees. The survival of the tree for next year does not seem to be a consideration for them.
I also harvested a good number of tent caterpillars this year. Their numbers are building to a peak again. Hopefully the parasitic wasps have caught up to them and next year will bring the population crash.
If you have “tent caterpillars” at the moment, they’re probably actually fall webworms which, while unsightly, really don’t harm the trees much. (The former, hatching out as they do just when the leaves begin to unfurl, are indeed a threat.) And either one might attract cuckoos!
But parasitic wasps are great, too. Except from the caterpillars’ POV.
Only since Eve – before that they would have eaten apples!
