I’m off for vacation in California for about ten days starting tomorrow, so posting will be a tad lighter, though I will have internet access sporadically. Matthew and Greg may fill in as well, though they’re busy as the school year looms. Don’t, however, forget to scan your cats: entries are due on the last day of August.
Moar later.
Northern California or Water-Stealing Bizarro Land?
Regardless, have fun. And do please leave the theology behind, mkay?
Cheers,

Oh rats, I thought this was another post about raptors but it’s you announcing a hiatus in posting, that sucks! Oh well have a nice time. Make sure to use plenty of sun screen if you’re on the beach and eat lots of yummy food.
Stay clear of the alpha rays, and you won’t get old.
Have a great time and don’t cause an earthquake while you’re there.
Wow…an actual vacation? Enjoy!
Yeah — clearly, he needs a vacation to recover from all the rigors of photographing historical Russian sites….
But seriously, Jerry: since I forgot to mention it above…if you spend any time in the real California, do me a flavor of finding a Redwood and giving it my love. Say “Hi!” to the Specific Ocean, too….

California–where there are two ways to lose your house by default…
Very good!
😉
Or, as I like to refer to it, the land of fruits and nuts.
I actually spent several years growing up just a mile or so from the San Andreas. I still remember one earthquake where you could see waves in the blacktop….

What is a blacktop?
Could be a number of things, some more intriguing than others . . . but here I think what we would call an asphalted roadway.
AH! I was thinking cars but that made no sense!
Actually, in this case, it was a large playground with an asphalt surface. Think of a parking lot without the cars but with basketball hoops, monkey bars, that sort of thing — but mostly empty space.
I’m sure there isn’t a single one left in the States today; the parents of the first kid to scrape a knee would see to that. Personally, if I had kids, it wouldn’t even occur to me that that’s something a kid needed protecting from…but that’s a rant for another day….

Here’s a holiday quiz for you Jerry

A Discovery Channel off-shoot – obviously populated by Gouldians… hmmm.
