No readers’ wildlife photos today

December 27, 2025 • 8:15 am

This is very sad, as there will be no photos on the third day of Koynezaa. We are at rock bottom, kaput, tan muerto como una roca, mort et bien mort. I have none in the queue save a few singletons, and that bodes ill for the future of the feature.

BUT, if you have good wildlife photos, send them in pronto.

Here are a few penguin and landscape pictures I took in Antarctica in 2022, just so you’ll have something:

I do not need “likes”

December 9, 2025 • 12:00 pm

I do appreciate readers “liking” posts or comments, but the problem is that each one generates an email to me, and there are many of them. The result is that my inbox is even more clogged up than usual, and that sometimes makes me miss messages.  So I’ll kindly ask readers to please refrain giving “likes.” If you especially appreciate a post or something I said, please show it by leaving it in the comments after a post, or sending me an email if you want direct contact. Many thanks!

No readers’ wildlife photos today

October 9, 2025 • 7:45 am

I have one batch of photos on which I’m waiting for information, and a few singletons that I could assemble into a heterogeneous posts, but otherwise we’re out of photos. If you sent me some in the past and I’ve forgotten to post them (this is entirely possible), please let me know and if possible re-send the photos.

And of course I know that there are several readers with batches being assembled, or so they say, so get off the stick and send them in. If you’re new, besure to use the “how to send me wildlife photos” instructions on the left sidebar.

Thanks!

We’re out of wildlife photos

September 22, 2025 • 8:30 am

As I’ve mentioned, I’m out of readers’ photo contributions.  If you have good photos you want to see posted, please put them together and then send them to me at the end of this coming week or early next week (I’ll be gone most of the week). If you don’t know how to submit photo, there’s a hand guide about how and where to do it on the left sidebar that looks like this:

Today’s Hili dialogue published prematurely; it’s up now

September 18, 2025 • 9:00 am

Yes, sometimes I hit the “publish” button instead of the “save” button when I’m writing a draft (I do the Hili dialogues mostly the afternoon before publication). That means that a partial draft actually gets sent out to people and, for about a minute, actually appears on the website. I know this because I get the “publication email”, and quickly run to unpublish the partial draft. But the email has already gone out, and should be ignored.

This happened yesterday, so I unpublished Hili until the post was done, and then put it up in toto this morning.  You can (and should!) read it HERE.

Thanks for your attention.

Note to readers

April 27, 2025 • 8:02 am

I want to remind readers again to avoid over-commenting on threads for reasons I’ve discussed before.  The Roolz on this issue (see here) are often blatantly ignored. Now I don’t enforce them strictly, but I see some folkz commenting over and over again on the same thread, and often making the same point.

If you haven’t yet read the posting guidelines, please do so here or on the left sidebar.  (“Da Roolz”).  At issue:

Thank you.
