Note to readers

April 27, 2025 • 8:02 am

I want to remind readers again to avoid over-commenting on threads for reasons I’ve discussed before.  The Roolz on this issue (see here) are often blatantly ignored. Now I don’t enforce them strictly, but I see some folkz commenting over and over again on the same thread, and often making the same point.

If you haven’t yet read the posting guidelines, please do so here or on the left sidebar.  (“Da Roolz”).  At issue:

Thank you.

  1. Related issue, any chance we will once again be able to subscribe to the comments on a particular post?

      1. That’s what I sometimes do, but if there are many comments, it’s cumbersome. But hey, we’ll live 😄

  2. I worry about this but feel safe b/c while I comment a LOT, I do it on different subjects.
I’m a broad spectrum loudmouth rather than an arguer!

  3. I always enjoy that “I approve this post” picture.

It reminds me of an item in the collection “Red Tape Holds Up New Bridge: and more flubs from the nation’s press” a 1987 release from Columbia Journalism review.

The item is a photo and caption from what I think I recall as a suburban local paper. The short article is about a woman who was the first to be elected to their City Council (or something like that), and the photo shows her standing on her front lawn with her husband. She has a hand up at shoulder height resting on a decorative crossbar of a lamppost in their yard. The caption on the picture is close to “First woman to hold this post.” I can’t browse past it without giggling.

Note to Douglas E — I know it’s not precisely what you’re looking for (and I would also appreciate seeing restored), but you may find some value in using the checkbox under the main textbox of the “Leave A Comment” form, for selecting “Send me an email notification when someone replies to my comment”.
