  1. Oooo PCC(E), callin’ out the HITS! Great pick!

I found a ton of recordings of this, check out these legends :

Chet Baker & Kenny Burrell 🎺
Nat King Cole & George Shearing
    Sinatra
    Sarah Vaughn
Dizzy, Joe Pass, Mickey Roker, Ray Brown 🎺
    AND MANY MORE!

It’s like PCC(E)’s the DJ 💿(no record emoji!) but I look all the recordings up and add them to the library…

… oh this is written by Kurt Weill, w/ Maxwell Anderson (lyrics) – I didn’t know that.

      1. I think PCC(E) could take on the persona of a Ray-Ban-bespectacled DJ deep in the stacks of a smoky AM radio station somewhere at 2 AM for the ongoing musical series here – but instead of playing the tunes, just call them out and we go find them. That works well, I think.

  2. This was one of my father’s favorite songs. I’ve always liked the Walter Houston version. Houston originated the song with the character of Peter Stuyvesant in the 1938 show “Knickerbocker Holiday.” Houston’s version is devoid of pathos, and even seems to have a wry humor.

  3. Nice brush work… we being not so plaintive in the southern hemisphere our colours are going the other way.

  4. A beautiful old song, spectacularly covered by Willie Nelson. I bought that album when it came out. There’s a reason they call this song—and the others in the album—standards.
