Ta ta for now

August 2, 2024 • 1:30 pm

As I’ve said a few times, I’m leaving tomorrow for South Africa, where I’ll spend a month traveling about and seeing the animals. Matthew has agreed to post the Hili dialogue (short form) every day, so there will be at least something to see. And I will post as often as practicable when it doesn’t interfere with my planned activities.

In the meantime, Matthew might initiate a discussion thread, but there will be no readers’ wildlife or Caturday felids until I return. I’ll ask readers that if you have post-worthy wildlife photos, please hold onto them until early September.

A bit of news: Botany Pond is nearly done with construction, though landscaping has yet to come. There will be ducks next year!

In the meantime, best wishes to all and you’ll hear from me when I’m in Africa (and maybe before).

  1. Have a great trip and I’m looking forward to seeing your travels on the website!

  2. TTFN. Strange but great news that Botany Pond suddenly went from uncertain to almost done. Kudos to whomever applied a correct placement of a boot. Hope the landscapers have done their homework during this past year and can hit the ground running.

    Safe and rewarding travels.

  3. Safe travels Jerry. I look forward to hearing about your South Africa trip. All the best.

  4. Have a great time. Look forward to seeing your travel posts! The news that Botany pond will soon be finished is good pre-vacation news! I hope the turtles are ok.

  5. Hoping you have some great animal to primate adventures. Resist that urge to pat a lion…

  6. Dr. Coyne, have a wonderful time there, where we all had supposedly started…

  7. Safe travels. I have always wanted to go the South Africa to see the plants and animals, and I will be looking forward to your pictures.

  8. Bon voyage.Hope you’re able to see every kind of cat, including caracals. I’m envious; East Africa and South Africa are among the few places I’d consider visiting these days. I’d particularly want to see leopards. In my one trip to Australia, I went to north Queensland in order to see crocodiles.

  9. In my haste I missed:

  10. Have a great time, South Africa’s a gorgeous place. I used to live in Malawi and loved popping down occasionally. If you have time visit a vineyard, as well – Boschendal in Franschoek outside Cape Town is wonderful, and absolutely beautiful.
