Today’s Jesus and Mo strip, called “effort,” had the short caption, “Oh, Jesus”.
It’s short and sweet: the barmaid sets Jesus straight on the “sunk cost fallacy“, which Jesus gets badly wrong (for obvious reasons).

It’s a massive investment, one that some children are persuaded to make. Even some adults who claim to have given up religion reveal an affinity for their favourite brand of woo when put under pressure 🙂

Has anyone ever accused a religious person of having this fallacy? I have, and it didn’t go over well. I’ve used the same argument on political grounds…why, for instance, people in politics often double-down when they’re proven wrong. It doesn’t go over well in the political sphere either. It’s like the Dunning Krueger effect…people who exhibit the fallacy can’t see it for what it is. I guess it’s just another form of willful ignorance.
I like the expression “throwing good money after bad.”
