I’ll play. I think my most notable contribution to your blog is that I took $10.00 from you on the results of the last presidential election. [JAC: Assuming that Clinton would win, I made “sucker bets,” betting readers that she would, knowing that some people would be so appalled at the thought of Trump winning that they’d be glad to give me $10. Sadly, Trump won and I had to pay several readers, so I took a double loss.]
I’m not a Trump supporter by any means, (I voted NDP in the advance poll for the current federal election in Canada), but I do like to win a safe bet. I’m watching U.S. news about Turkey/Syria/The Kurds as I type this, and I (sadly) still have confidence in the Democrats ability to #@$! it up again. How about double or nothing?
My two things are cycling, (on track for 8,000 km this year, 5,000 miles for my south of the border friends), and music. The picture is from the summer at a 100 km Gran Fondo event I rode with my 89 year old father.

Impressive mileage too! I did 600 miles this summer (exclusively after work, evenings, no weekend miles) and felt pretty good about it!
The band does a wide range of horn friendly music from 30’s standards to current pop/R&B. The Blues Brothers is why I started to learn guitar and join a band in the first place. In time I discovered Downchild Blues Band.
60’s Motown is the music that moves me most. I disagree with our host on some music topics. Joni Mitchell is not the finest songwriter of the pop/rock era. Smokey is.
I ride 90 minutes most mornings before work. In the worst of weather I ride indoors on a smart trainer, using Zwift. I keep track of it all on Strava.

I wouldn’t bet *on* a Republican, but sometimes it is really easy to bet against a Democrat. From my side of the border I like mayor Pete.

I love bands with a horn section, very cool. I used to play guitar, but decided I wasn’t ever going to be as good as I wanted to be and moved on. Is that a Telecaster? It’s pretty.
89 and 100km? Very good for your pops.
It’s a G&L ASAT classic thinline. So a Leo Fender guitar, but not a *Fender* per se. It’s got f-holes, as all electric guitars should, IMNSHO.
My dad is a two time world champion masters swimmer. 5 or 6 hours on wheels is a relaxing ride. He pedals a recumbent trike, but 60 miles is the same distance no matter how many wheels your bike has. It took until my 50’s and his 80’s until we could really ho out and ride together.

Love the bike too. I bike everyday to work on a cheap but nice Fuji carbon. Would like to upgrade after 15 years of commuting…I’ve earned it.
Good to see that others carry on playing in varying types of ‘bands, I play bass clarinet in a concert band, and any sort of clarinet required in a community symphony orchestra. I hope to continue to do so for a long time — despite my age!
