Good morning and welcome to National Cream Puff Day AKA profiterole or choux à la crème. They’re really easy to make, so give it a try. Here’s a variation of them without the cream.
Jerry reports that he’s experiencing lovely temperatures in Delhi, with highs of about 72°F (22°C)—although it’s smoggy—and cooler evenings, with lows of about 45°F (7°C). But look at these wind-chill equivalents he’s missing in Chicago; these are New Year’s Day! Brrrr!!!! Those equivalents are in Fahrenheit, though at -40 Fahrenheit and Celsius are the same. “Lakefront” is where he lives.
Here’s a roundup from Twitter.
An otter enjoying a belly-rub (be sure to turn the sound up to hear its adorable chirps):

The nice tolerant Pope comes out as pro-het marriage and anti-contraception. Quelle surprise.
The Family is the harmonious union of differences between a man and a woman. When it’s open to life and to others it’s even more authentic.

If you think I’m interpreting it incorrectly, here’s one from two days before.
Today we pray for all the children who are not allowed to be born, who cry with hunger, who hold weapons in their hands instead of toys.

Some pig-shaming. Be more like this pig.
Look at him, he's made no resolutions, he has no plans to better himself or increase his productivity, the whole community is aghast pic.twitter.com/78EoRZUSXU

Or be less cynical and remember that dreams sometimes do come true
I wish everyone a fantastic 2018 ! Life is not always easy but we all have our dreams. Mine started in a cardboard spacecraft many years ago and carried me to the ISS! Let’s remember our childhood dreams and work to achieve them in 2018 !! 🎯 pic.twitter.com/sw6XZ00iYJ

May your grafitti artists always be like this one

Reader Sebastian sent a photo of his Polish cat (she’s named “Frytka”) reading the Polish translation of WEIT. But she seems to be reading the back cover only!
Finally, Hili is engaged in her own mission impossible.
A: What are you looking at?
Hili: I’m looking out for a black horse but in this darkness you can’t even see a black dog.
In Polish:
Ja: Czemu się tak przypatrujesz?
Hili: Wypatruję czarnego konia, ale w tych mrokach nie widać nawet czarnego psa.

Off topic: PCC(E)’s review of the terrible Darwin biography is on this morning’s Arts and Letters Daily. Good going, sir!

I saw that 2 creationists/IDiots have kind of taken over, or at least bombarded, the ‘comments’ section there. Tried to give some response, but we know how hard it is to stem a ‘Gish Gallop’.
Thanks for that; cool that they picked it up!
Baby it’s cold outside. Love that pig.
hehhehheh, Randall / All: -16 degrees
Fahrenheit / -27 degrees Celsius … … within central Iowa.
“Quelle surprise,” indeed, Mr Papally – Dude.
Om’golly: otters are darling !
Thank you, Ms Grania, for our wakey – wakey.
Always there you are when soooo, so needed.

Not so sure about the cover of that edition with the old ‘ascent of man’ pictures…
I am not responsible for choosing covers, either of my own or of foreign editions (though I designed the cover of the American edition of WEIT).
The d*g is clearly looking for brush strokes to learn something about artistic technique.
20 miles sw of Midway airport current temp -13f, -25c without the wind chill. At least it’s not snowing.
I love Chicago.
May I request that, for these Tw1++#9 compilations, the picture punchline (usually beginning with, quelle suprise, pic.twitter.com, be interpreted or translated into plain ASCII text for those of us who can’t be bothered to wait for pics to load yes I know this is a run-on sentence do you like it kthxbai.
I’ve got a different interpretation of the Pope’s tweets. When he says the best marriages are those “open to … others,” he’s clearly endorsing swinging, especially by including your local priest. As for those babies who are not allowed to be born crying with hunger, holding weapons etc, clearly heaven is not a safe place for children! Give birth to keep those kids out of God’s hands!
That’s pretty cold. Back when I was a junior in High School, there were two weekends in a row when then temperature dropped to -23F, with windchills of -80F. Here in Central Florida it’s supposed to hit 29F Thursday night, which is unusually cold, and will hopefully kill a lot of mosquitos.
I wish the US would switch to Celsius, so I (a Canadian) could avoid looking like an idiot from time to time, but I know it ain’t gonna happen.
Some years ago I was talking to some Americans who thought it was always cold up in Canada. No, no I replied it can get up to 30 or even more. They looked at me blankly.
Right now I’m just back in Canada after a trip down to Delaware, USA, to visit my in-laws. Like a lot of places, Delaware was very cold and at one point it snowed. My brother-in-law said that the next day the forecast high was 8. So it’s all going to melt, I said. He looked at me blankly.
Sorta relatedly, Mr Mawtthews, in re
temperatures’ various unit markings, one
o’m’kiddos is this newest year facebooking

Some few are ‘liking’ his statement / post.

The Polish title of WEIT seems to eliminate any equivalent to the pronoun “why”- it simply translates as “Evolution is a Fact”.
Maybe in Polish you can only use “why” in a question.
I don’t know the language well, but it seems you would translate as
“dlaczego ewolucja jest prawdziwa/faktem”
Our summer here (it is summer here in SA) is kinda cool, mostly not exceeding 25C, but during August (our winter season) we had days of 30+C! Clearly, weather is not just not climate, it is not even season!
Why were otters never domesticated?
The lows here in the Minneapolis area have been between -15°F and -20°F (-26°C to -29°C) since Christmas day.
Brrrrr.
It’s always lovely to see Hili sitting atop her canisters. 🙂
