Good morning!
I’m filling in for Jerry this morning, he’ll be in later on.
In 1492 Spain gave Christopher Columbus his commission of exploration.

In 1598 Henry IV of France issued the Edict of Nantes, allowing freedom of religion to the Huguenots. In 1927 actors Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford become the first to leave their footprints in concrete at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. In 1945 Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun committed suicide after being married for just more than a day.

Finally, here’s a song that sounds like it is 50 years out of time, but it was only released yesterday. It’s a perfect for relaxing to while sipping your morning coffee or tea.
Hili: I probably nodded off over this book.A: This happens only to those who still like books.
Hili: Chyba przysnęłam nad tą książką.
Ja: To się zdarza tylko tym, którzy jeszcze lubią książki.
Leon: I consider this an opening of our picnic.
And finally, reader Stephanie sent this gorgeous photo of a lynx to Jerry, taken by Arielle DeMerchant near Scotch Lake in eastern Canada. There’s a story here about how she set about capturing this shot.

The edict of Nantes was revoked about 80 years later by Louis XIV. All this religious strife must have been instrumental in forming the Enlightenment ‘movement’.
My cats had a relaxing night. At about 3am (edt)Willow had a disagreement with a hairball which she, thankfully, managed not to disgorge onto my bed. Thus a minor tragedy was averted and we all slept happily ever ’til morning!
The book seems to be about the history of Dobrzyn and regio.

The book is not about the history of this region but about nature here: flora and fauna etc. Many nice pictures of lakes, forests, animals and plants.
The Avi Kaplan song is fantastic. Great way to start the day.
Stephanie, that picture is worthy of publication! Very well done.
The Avriel song reminds me a lot of Simon and Garfunkel, particularly the parts that are just vocal and guitar. Yes, quite good.
The lynx looked quite surprised when the camouflaged camera flashed. So would I.
Not known to all maybe, Columbus made 4 trips attempting to find the far east and even returned on one of the voyages as a prisoner in chains. He never found the gold he wasted so much time looking for and he never touched ground in any of the United States.
That’s Sid Grauman there with Douglas and Mary by the way.
Regarding the lynx photo – what a pleasure for the rest of us that Stephanie’s dedication and planning payed dividends for the rest of us to share. Great photos of the lynx.
Last night my two cats Kofi and Minky became very interested in a TV program, NOVA I think, about lynx being reintroduced to European forests. As well as the elusive lynx there were mice and birds – with all the appropriate sounds. These two are very discriminating and will only be interested if the animal sounds are real – no dumb human music accompaniment for them.
Hitler withstood the vicissitudes of being an unpopular world leader, and the rigours and travails of World War Two for fifteen years, but after being married for just one day he shot himself. He sounds almost human.
As J.R.R. Tolkein observed –
