  1. And the fifth panel

“There’s some Sumerians outside who want a word about bronze age Canaanite religion”

    1. Beat me to it. I need to be fast ’round here.
But before we conclude that the cultural murders continue far back in time, let us be reminded that only white people can be cultural appropriators.

      1. But Jesus was blond and blue-eyed doncha know. Can’t be sure about Paul, but he was probably a redhead. Judging by his temperament…

  2. While prodding the internet for some stuff about cultural appropriation, I found some amusing stuff about cultural appropriation.
Disney is being criticized by the Politically Correct over their upcoming animated movieMoana, which is about a Polynesian princess.
There is also a Halloween costume based on the movie that is of course facing Disapproval.

    1. “their upcoming animated movie Moana, which is about a Polynesian princess.”

I expect my (polynesian) wife will love it, since she’s never been indoctrinated on the evils of Cultural Appropriation.

  3. Perhaps until the Romans put down the 70 AD revolt, Christianity was just another Judaic sect. At least the the group in Jerusalem led by James retained Judaic values: they were Jews.

But most of the Jerusalem group would not have survived the Roman invasion, about 90,000 legionnaires and auxiliaries, more than double the size of Alexander’s army.

What did survive the Jewish War were the converts in the places where Paul established Christian churches.

What Paul preached was his own invention: a Greek mystery religion with a veneer of Judaism. Some historians claim that Paul’s Jesus was derived from the god Attis of his home town, Tarsus. Others claim that Pauline Christianity resembled the cult of Mithras.

Given the polytheism that existed at the time, one should not be surprised that historians have found traces in Christianity of a whole pantheon of pagan deities.

The most important and worthy Christian borrowings from Judaism were prohibition of female infanticide and minor improvement in the status of women.

Malthus revealed an important unworthy borrowing from Judaism when he included “vice” as factor in limiting population growth, along with famine, war and disease.

“Vice” for Malthus was contraception by various means, as it remains today for the Catholic Church, derived from a misunderstanding of the Sin of Onan, who “spilled his seed upon the ground”.

What was and is misunderstood is the reason why this was a sin. Not because Onan’s seed was precious, but because he failed in his religious duty to impregnate his sister-in-law after his brother’s death and thus left her childless and his brother without a male heir.

A further consequence of Malthus’s euphemism, “vice”, has been the erroneous claim that Malthus was wrong because technology makes it the Earth to provide for however many people are born.

Malthus was wrong because, as a clergyman, he could not envision a time when birth control would no longer be viewed as “vice”.

  4. Christianity was started by Jews. I am not sure if this means that Christians have permission or not to use Jewish scripture.

  5. Although Moe is more often a nickname for Morris, Moe Howard of the Three Stooges was born Moses Harry Horwitz, so it’s legit.

  6. Superb!

  7. I think UTNAPISHTIM would have something to say about the Flood, He’s still around, as he was granted eternal life, but considering his age he doesn’t get out much.
