Meet Cupcake, a part-Siamese cat that spent eight days in a box of DVDs as it made its way from Cornwall to Sussex. Fortunately, the cat was microchipped, and you can see the one-minute video of Cupcake’s joyous reunion with her owner by clicking on the screenshot below.

Reader Heather Hastie sent this video, adding this:
Since you’re been so busy, I posted a couple of cat stories myself – one about some African Servals, and another about some Clouded Leopard cubs – but this one is pure WEIT. You won’t believe this woman:
All the cats look healthy, so she’s clearly doing a great job, but the numbers just boggle the mind. It’s like she’s changed them into herd animals.
Mr. Das in Bangalore has had up to 85 cats at a time (most not living in his house), but here’s Lynea Lattanzio a woman who runs a no-kill shelter housing 800 cats. She gave up her home to the cats and moved to a trailer on the property. Lattanzio claims she’s housed 28,000 cats over her life—surely a record!
Heather also sent the photo below the video, which makes the unwarranted implication that males over 40 aren’t interested in cats! (I recently finished a week in Bangalore with 40 moggies!)

Here’s the most epic cat fight I know of on YouTube, one made doubly intriguing because the crows seem to be egging on the cats to fight. Could that be possible? The incident took place in Russia, and it looks as if neither cat suffered greatly from the encounter.
The story in English is here, and there are some strange comments on the video, including this one:
This is the reason cats will never rule the world. A cooperative species would gang up on the common enemy (crows). Instead the dumb bastards fight each other and let the crows get away with it. Cats are fucking stupid.

I love cats, but thinking about the lady spending a million dollars on all these cats is a bit disturbing. Couldn’t that money be better spent on desperate humans? Of course billions are spent on pets in the U.S. and it’s clear they serve important human needs. But on the other hand there is so much human suffering out there…
I hope they are all neutered.
I would say all of the cats must be fixed, otherwise, this would never work and it would be insane.
There are people who put animals ahead of people. Hard to believe maybe, but it happens. I am pretty sure my wife is among them.
I guess we can’t be too harsh on (extreme) animal lovers. Humanity is nice in theory, but often it seems furry creatures are so much more affable, generous, patient, kind, accepting, and loyal. Humans are iffy at best – what with there psychological needs and solipsistic emotions. Even the ones we normally trust can let us down, and there aren’t all that many of those. Humans can be assholes. Thinking of puppies and kittens is therapy for troubled minds. Look at all the videos and web sites which are therapeutic. 😎
I think you misunderstand the over-40 caption – if you are over 40 but not married, you are obviously in need of cats.
That makes much more sense. Thanks for getting that in there.
That’s how I understood it too. 🙂
I wonder what the white cat did to those birds to earn such dedicated aggression?
I think the hoodies have a side bet on the cats. The music sounds like it has been specially composed for the video.
Cats are cute, but there is no doubt on who the intelligent critters are in that video.
Yes, that kind of stumps me, how a crow with its tiny brain is so much more clever than a ca
I’ve thinking that bird intelligence must have evolved independently from that in mammals, possibly working with different mechanisms. Fortunately some scientists have read my mind and took on that question http://nautil.us/blog/why-neuroscientists-need-to-study-the-crow 😀
Corvids are remarkable, and the linked article quite interesting, but the formidable stupidity and anti-science impetus of most of the comments below is slightly disheartening.
“Dr. Frankenstein”, seriously ?
A lot of corvids (crows, magpies and ravens in particular) harass carnivores in the wild at their kills, so that they can nip in and grab a bit. That may predispose them towards the sort of behaviour we see in the in the video. Although it’s hard not to think that a desire for mischief contributes as well.
Poor Cupcake! I wonder if he’ll ever go near another cardbox box.
…cardboard box!
Eight days to transport a box a mere 250 miles? The British Postal Service must be even worse than Australia Post, which has recently increased its charges and decreased its services.
“I love mankind, it’s people I can’t stand” said Charlie Brown. Sometimes I agree with him, although I’m convinced one can share and spend some money on the lovely furry friends and some helping people who deserve to be helped
I Agree to the Woman, because HUMANKIND Is Tend FURRYABLE,HYPOCRITE,and TROUBLE SOME(ups no offence),mmmmmmm, what else? Cats is DESERVE for to love, because they is LOVEABLE,INDEPENDENT and all faith is WELCOME to them!
