In the mid eighties Steven Gould delivered lectures in Auckland, New Zealand. I took some of my secondary school Bio. students along. He spent much of his lecture discussing the role of spandrels in evolution. Hearing him speak was a treat indeed.
At the link is a picture taken from a building, of two people on top of a car that is surrounded by ice and water in Ocean City, NJ. Their clothes appear dry so it is very unclear what is going on.
Even a thousand words can be inadequate.
