It’s a boring week: dull, cold and gray. To paraphrase Smokey Robinson, there’s plenty of work but the bosses ain’t paying. Things are going to hell in the Middle East and the Iran/Saudi Arabia fight has a largely religious cause. For a short but informative primer on the difference between Sunni and Shia Islam, see this short piece in yesterday’s New York Times. How many have been killed as the legacy of a squabble over who was the rightful heir of Muhammad? On this day in history, jazz bassist Charlie Mingus died in 1979 at the age of only 57. Meanwhile in Dobrzyn, Hili, despite her normal gourmet fare, appears to have nommed a worm:
Hili: What are you looking for?
Cyrus: Something walked here.
Hili: A little worm. I ate it. It was tasty but I’ve eaten better ones.
Hili: I czego tam szukasz?
Cyrus: Coś tu chodziło.
Hili: Robaczek, którego zjadłam. Smaczny był, ale jadłam lepsze.

Methinks PCC[E] is feeling the weather as the Hili dialogue is much later than in the summer! Remember the getting up quickly after the alarm goes off discussion before Coynezaa? I think people with low blood pressure find that difficult, those with high BP find it a lot easier…
I still get up way too early but have scheduled the dialogues to post automatically at 6 a.m. Chicago time. Except for me and thos working the late shift, only non-Americans are awake when I get up!
I don’t work the late shift, and I’ve already been up for at least an hour when you get up. L

Yeah, but you have goats to feed!
So, non-Americans and goat-farmers comprise your pre-Hili audience. Your demographic footprint is expanding. The clickbait campaign is clearly working.
I’ll take my $1000 fee for web marketing consultancy now. Please use quick-drying ink on the cheque.
Thanks for the link to NY Times brief explanation of two branches of religion. Reminds me of this cartoon:

Hili knows you must take them alive while they are at their freshest.
I think of the Sunni/Shiite schism as an early, expected violent, experiment in mohammedanist reformation. Catholicism/sunnism: makes much ado about electing leaders, likes their bling; protestantism/shiitism: no specific leadership worship any longer, likes playing victim.
I suspect in the beginning they felt the differences were critical and fought lustily over it. But later, like the Hatfields and McCoys, they mostly just continue out of habit.
It seems a bit like looking back at English history of the monarchy. Who killed who?
“Bellum omnium contra omnes“, if I recall correctly.
There’s no realistic prospect of British Republican agitators making a serious attempt at “decapitating” the Monarchists. Or even just the Monarchy. I can’t think of a serious effort since John Paul Jones lost his matches in Whitehaven, and that was hardly his main intention.
Now why aren’t your American Republican gun nuts coming over here in droves to try to free us from our oppression? I’m sure the Specials would love the exercise, and they never waterboard anyone (they after all, have effective techniques).
Fancy exporting a boatload or several? Let the wet Specials have some fun too?
In addition to the religious divide, it’s worth noting that this is also Arabs against Persians. Many Americans assume the entire Middle Eastern Muslim world is Arab, but Iranians are Persian and take as much offense at being labeled Arab as a German would at being labeled French.

Good point.
For the people of Alsace Lorraine it gets very confusing.
Aren’t they happy with being called Bratwurst-eating Dreyfuss-monkeys?
“Things are going to hell in the Middle East…”
Things aren’t looking too good in Germany either, as reportedly a group of up to 1000 “Arab or North African”-looking men engaged in mass sexual assault of dozens of women to celebrate a new year in the land of the kafir.
