Wednesday: Hili Dialogue

July 15, 2015 • 7:02 am

Good morning. Jerry is in the Land of No Wireless (oh, the horror) so he will update us when he can on his doings.

Today Rembrandt van Rjin was born in 1606, writer Irish Murdoch was born in 1919, and in 1986 Columbia Records dumped Johnny Cash.

Over in Poland, things are much happier. Could Hili be more adorable?

Hili: I do not feel like reading, hunting or sleeping.
M: So, what do you want to do?
Hili: Nothing, but snuggle in your arms.

In Polish:

Hili: Nie chce mi się ani czytać, ani polować, ani spać.
Małgorzata: To co chcesz robić?
Hili: Nic, ale w twoich ramionach.

  1. I was in the land of wifi-less yesterday afternoon when one wifi router out of three stopped working in my house then a second one stopped working. After a couple of hours I figured out a switch box had gone bad. (Unlike United Aurlines who took a half day to find a bad switch).

(Yes, I have a large house that requires three wifi routers.)

    1. I have no internet at home – I sit in front of a computer for most of the day so the last thing I need is the distraction of interweb at home. When I could be reading, thinking, sleeping, or in a general state of omphaloskepsis!

  2. Almost no wireless. I don’t know if he’s up yet or not, but I obviously am able to get enough of a signal to be reminded of just how sweet a cat Hili is. I suppose I’ll know in a moment if it’s enough of a signal to post….

When we choose the new house, this time I WILL put proper bloody cabling in,despite the wife’s objections.

    1. Not cabling. Conduit — big, roomy conduit with pull wires. Then run whatever is today’s latest and greatest in the conduit. In 3.78 weeks when today’s latest and greatest is woefully inadequate, you just have to pull the old-n-busted out and pull the new hawtness in.

Make sure to have all sorts of outlets all over the place, including in ceiling crawl spaces where you can hide your wireless repeaters. And on every wall of every room, perhaps even multiple outlets per wall…just as with power plugs, you never know when somebody’s going to decide that that would just be the perfect spot for a digital picture frame or whatever gewgaw comes next….

      1. I proposed conduit. After translating it into Russian, I was nearly hit.
Next time I’ll do the job while She Who Must Be Obeyed is out, or visiting her mum or something.
