Okay, reader Florian provided the answer to the spot-the-d*g quiz, along with a photo showing the cryptic Eddie. First the original photo.
Then the solution:
He’s to the right of the pool behind the shrubbery. You can just see his nose and forepaws. It’s warm in the sun there. He probably thinks I can’t see him.

Did nobody else notice the cat on the orange roof in the other lot…?
b&
I did, and wondered if that was Eddie! And then there’s something grey in the upper right corner of the pool, almost like a squashed up manta ray.
I thought that was Eddie. 🙂
What kind of name is, “Eddie,” for a cat? And wouldn’t it be confusing to have a cat and a d*g share the same name?
b&
Not really.
After all, only one of them will ever come when you call it.
Names serve more purposes than merely for lords to summon their vassals — a situation that obviously does not pertain in the case of a cat!
b&
Yep
I think these “Can you spot the …” should at least show the object in question in focus. ):
Thanks everyone for playing. I’m honored that Jerry shared this even though a d*g was the subject. Ben, that does look like a cat on the neighbors roof but pretty sure it’s not. I think is a bit of palm tree bark. It was a breezy day and some bits were blowing off the palms. BillyJoe, the original image is pretty much in focus. I think the crop showing Eddie maybe got enlarged a bit too much on the website making it look more out of focus.
And i didn’t even see the aardvark in the pool until Joseph McClain pointed him out!
Makes you wonder how many nightjars are hiding in the scene….
b&
And the palm squirrels! There are palms after all.
Thanks for the challenge, Florian.
Also–nice digs, nice neighborhood!
I think GBJames guessed it right.
He did indeed! That’s some fine Spot the ______________ right there!
I’m pretty sure that’s a wildebeest, by the way, chilling in the far corner of the pool.
Jack Russells are very cool dogs. I had a friend whose Jack Russell would run up trees after squirrels — seemingly impossible trees.
My sister once house-sat for a Jack Russell that had to be let out several times each night in order to climb trees in the back yard.
Named after a clergyman … ( got to get religion into the thread !)
YHWH generally is considered a bit above clergy, though you’re likely right that his anglicized name had something to do with the species.
