Best Friends says “Happy Thanksgiving”

Don’t expect anything substantive today as the good Professor will be occupied, and nobody in America will be (or should be, if you are) reading websites.  And, as it’s a holiday,  I’ll even allow videos showing d*gs that aren’t getting pummeled by cats.

This one is a heartwarming two-minute Thanksgiving video from the Best Friends Animal Society, described on YouTube as an estimable organization (TRIGGER WARNING: D*gs):

Best Friends Animal Society is a national animal welfare organization focused on ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters. An authority and leader in the no-kill movement, Best Friends runs the nation’s largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals, as well as lifesaving programs in partnership with rescue groups and shelters across the country.   1. This organization has a great web site with lots of animals for adoption too. The photos are also pretty good for an adoption site.

    I hope the animals all find forever homes!

  8. Best Friends is wonderful!!! I visited them in Kanab maybe 8 years ago (also North Rim of Grand Canyon) and also gave them a little bit of my “inheritance” after my mother died. I had happened to run into one of the founders at a b and b farther north in Utah and she told me all about it. They really do great things for snimals ( including rescuing and rehabilitating those poor pitbulls of the horrible Vicks). I have helped support an old goat named Joseph there, too. They are a very worthy recipient for your donations. ( the cat houses are spectacular!)

    1. P.s. Best Friends also goes out to the local Indian reservations and neuters and spays their dogs for free. If you make a certain size donation you get their cool magazine I think 6x a year. I read it and pass it on to my vet’s office. Can’t say enough good things about it. The founders bought a whole canyon!

  9. My daughter did an internship at the Best Friends location in southern Utah. A great place, with hundreds of animals. Horses, dogs, cats, birds, and rabbits.
    I was honored to visit, and contribute. Highly recommended.

    1. I’m assuming that what Jerry means, is that Americans should all be watching American football today since it’s an American pastime on Thanksgiving. 🙂

  11. From 17 million to 4 million. That is a great achievement, truly heartwarming.
    I do not want to sound flippant or so, but where have these other 13 million, that would otherwise have been killed, gone? 13 million adoptions a year?

    That being said, you should know that I assume you refuse to correctly spell “dog” because you don’t feel worthy. I won’t be dissuaded, so don’t even try.

    Just know that when you find your way to the Light*, the dogs and I will be there waiting.
