      1. Erm…guys, Jerry isn’t expressing suicidal thoughts, here. It’s a common phrase, and it just means that, when he dies — and, he surely will someday, for he and we are the lucky ones — he will do so proud of this achievement.

        I daresay he has even more he’d like to achieve before he dies, and he’ll be even happier when he dies if he accomplishes those achievements as well.

        The saying might have a hint of the morbid or maudlin, but only in the same playful sense as Halloween or Dios de los Muertos.

  11. A subtley amusing fact… you’re below “My Nintendo News”. I’m willing to bet that’s ranking so high at the moment due to the recent release of Pokemon X/Y, the newest part of a game series that uses the term ‘evolution’ to refer to metamorphisis, and can feature dogs giving birth to cats (by laying eggs!)

    Nothing against the game though, no-one ever pretends to it to be a biology lesson. It’s a game about fantasy creatures, and none of it’s players think it’s an accurate portrayal of real world wildlife biology.

    Still I suspect it’s where a lot of creationists get their understanding evolution, if you’ve played the games and then listen to their descriptions of evolution, it can be a bit uncanny. Could just be a co-incidence, but I wouldn’t be TOO surprised…

    1. I agree, I don’t know why they couldn’t call it “metamorphosis” instead and get it right, or even stick with English and call it “transformation”. I am sure they have confused an awful lot of idiots with this.

      1. Really? That’s great news. I didn’t know that A+ had so much impact on Pharyngula. I mean, I stopped reading after that, but I didn’t know that so many others did too.

        1. To be sure, I don’t have any hard figures. But I paid a lot of attention to Pharyngula before then and was a semi-occassional poster. I left not long after that. Every few weeks or so I’ll scan a page of headlines, and see little that interests me and nothing with high post counts. I think Jerry can expect more replies to a guess-the-boot-hide post than PZ can to one about elevator rapists.

          Or maybe that’s just confirmation bias on my part. Don’t know, don’t care.

            There probably is something out there…but the short version is that PZ and friends decided that atheism should be about more than not having any gods, and that it should be about progressivist liberalism as well. Classic catherding, in other words. “They” then decided that anybody who wasn’t with them is a fucking douchenozzle…and even those who would vote the exact same way up and down the ballot as they would but who would do so for different reasons are fucking douchenozzles. They called this new movement of theirs, “A+,” and they lumped everybody who’s not in lock step with them with elevator rapists. That’s about the time I gave up on PZ, and it seems to be the time that many others did, too.

            …and that’s probably already more about this topic than is suitable for this discussion.

            I hate train wrecks. Though it was perfectly obvious that this would happen; it’s happened before, it’ll happen again, one reason I don’t think simply converting everyone to atheism will clean up much that is wrong with humanity.
