A book up for auction

June 4, 2013 • 2:31 pm

The Northern Ohio Freethought Society, a brand-new chapter of The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), is having a fundraiser in Akron on October 19  in conjunction with the Secular Student Alliance at the University of Akron. Part of the money will go to put up an atheist billboard to make the locals ponder and to welcome co-president Annie Laurie Gaylor to Akron. There are several good speakers at the meeting, including Annie Laurie.

There will be an auction at the meeting, and they asked me to donate an autographed book. I did, of course, and added an atheist billboard cat, modeled after the FFRF’s own billboards. I grant that I’m no Kelly Houle:

Atheist Cat

If you’re a heathen in northern Ohio, you might head to Akron on Oct. 19, and maybe ante up some serious folding green for the book.  The FFRF is our Official Website Secular Organization™ and deserves your support.

  1. I’m one of those heathens who is a member of this new chapter. You can bet I’ll be bidding on the book Jerry.

  2. I hate to admit it, but “FFRF” sounds more like something an atheist dog would say.

    1. I don’t know if you are an ffrf member, but the reason I support them over other atheist organizations is because they are very active, bringing law suits against organizations violating the separation of church and state, and they have some rather pointed newspaper ads and such. Also they have a weekly broadcast, and have great guest interviews (Victor Stenger was the guest this past Saturday). I’m saving my shekels to become a lifetime member. instead of renewing my membership each year.

      1. Yes, I am a member. No slur on the FFRF was intended. It was just a (possibly lame) joke about Jerry’s sketch of an atheist cat saying “FFRF”.

        1. I didn’t get the idea from the drawing that the cat was meant to be saying that. But liked your joke, anyway.

  3. I submitted a photo and caption of one ob my kittehs for FFRF’s billboard campaign, and they rejected it!!!!!!

    WHY, FFRF, WHY?!!!

  4. Hi Jerry,

This is great! Thank you very much for your contribution to our proposed fundraiser 🙂

There is just one slight correction. The Secular Student Alliance’s Akron Chapter’s conference “Sexy Secular Conference 2013” is actually on October 19, 2013. This is not the date of the Northern Ohio Freethought Society’s proposed fundraiser. We are actually hoping to do something in August, but nothing is set in stone yet, as we need a venue. However, we will have a table at the conference, so if people can stop by and say hello, we’d love it!

Thank you again for your support of our cause, and your support of FFRF!

  5. Have seen lots of individual JAC cat doodles, but this one looks suspiciously well-rendered. Enough so that it could have been done by a professional cartoonist. Is this an evolutionary trait?
