Everyone knows that Ringed Turtle Doves are assholes.
I’ll put that above the fold!
thanks
Feel free to delete my comment, just to avoid clutter. (I’m cringing at the typo anyway.)
The laptop is definitely cat-safe… But felines have a long way to go before getting technology 😉
These videos make me think that trans-species reincarnation is a certitude 🙂
That might be something even a christian would kick their god’s ass for, when their lunch starts laughing at them.
I’ve been a long time reader of the website, but never post. However, I have a question for the knowledgeable cat people that frequently visit. What do you do if your cat has a “kidney stone?” He’s walking around our house, squatting in different places and straining to pee. This morning, there’s gross hematuria. He even growled while squatting, which he never does.
It’s been going on for about 1 month. At first, we took him to the vet and they just prescribed an antibiotic for a suspected UTI (they didn’t do a UA). His symptoms improved temporarily, but they just returned yesterday and I now think it’s a stone vs. UTI. Any suggestions? Should I change his cat food?
Thanks.
What should you do? Take him back to the vet asap.
Definitely!!
Yes, look for food with a low ash content. Male cats have a tendency to develop bladder or urethral stones. It can be very painful, debilitating, and dangerous. My boy had to have surgery to remove the blockage. The vet shortened and widened his urethra to make passage of stones easier. This was in the ’70s, so vet practices may have changed. Most vets carry specialized foods for this problem.
Hope your cat stays healthy and pain-free!
First, go to a good vet, not the hack you went to the first time. Right now.
Second, Hills Science Diet makes several types of food to prevent this, but your vet needs to do a urinalysis to determine what is appropriate.
Third, we have had really good long term results, even reversal, of mineralization in Keeshu’s kidneys by feeding entirely grain-free.
Yes, what daveau says: if the first vet didn’t even do a culture to see if it was a uti, then try a different vet. There are so many things it could be, which is why simply changing the diet and not going back to a vet isn’t a good idea. One of my (now deceased) calicos used to have troubles like this. She ended up having bladder crystals, which had to be surgically removed. She was perfectly fine after, but they would have never gone away on their own. Plus, only by finding out exactly where and what the problem is, would you be able to get the right food for him. Good luck. I know how stressful it is to have a sick feline friend!
Thanks for the advice about low ash and grain free diet. In my previous post, I should have clarified AFTER taking him to the vet to remedy the acute problem. My wife took him while I was here studying. I was hoping for a long-term, preventative measure but failed to mention that earlier.
I just spoke with her, and she said that they gave him an antibiotic shot, anti-inflammatory shot and provided some cat food (she didn’t know what kind). She said the UA micro demonstrated multiple crystals, but didn’t say what kind. I’ll get more information when I see her later. But thanks again for the recommendations. I knew this website would be a good source for good, quick cat information!
Don’t wait. Get to the vet now. Cats and kidneys can be problematic. Badly so.
Wired.loc: When I had a cat with that problem, surgery was what it took.
STRAINING MALE CATS NEED TO GO TO THE VET. Probably just bladder crystals, but these are sometimes fatal in male cats. The problems is less severe in females, but still quite painful and still dangerous. My female cat had a problem like this off and on for a year. Antibiotics didn’t work. Only thing that worked was putting her on a stone dissolving specialty diet. It can take a month or two for the dietary change to clear things up. I am so glad this food worked. My cat was in a lot of pain, lost a lot of weight, and just couldn’t seem to enjoy life. Now she is healthy again and enjoys life the way she used to.

I saw the third-from-top youtube-vis on facebook a week ago and immediately thought: “This will appear on WEIT in 3-2-1 …”
Very, very patient cat … very irritating dove. I am very fond of birds and always try to learn more about these near-perfect creatures. Doves … not so much. Very.Irritating.animals!
The obviously male ringneck dove in the third video urgently needs a female dove.
Any specialized names for male and female doves?
Bill and Coo?
hahahahahaha. Nice one Shuggy
Irène: wanna bet? 🙂
