Naps and tornadoes

August 11, 2026 • 11:00 am

The weather is threatening a hard rain, and we not only received tornado warnings, accompanied by loud sirens, on our phones, but there’s a big siren blaring at the university.

But the ducks don’t care; this is their weather. In fact, all five were napping together on the Second Sacred Rock. It’s rare for them to all be sleeping, but it’s dark with clouds and Miss Duck decided to join her brood in forty (or is it 200?) winks.  Note how fast the ducklings are getting feathered:

  1. Look how they’ve grown! Real ducks now. Never thought about whether ducks just sit out and paddle around in the rain or if they shelter. Interesting.
