Well, Muslim theologians have come up with the greatest marketing tool ever. They tell randy young men that they’ll get great sex in heaven if they will just blow themselves up. Here’s a video of Egyptian clerics promising martyrs black-eyed virgins and other goodies in the afterlife.
“We congratulate the relatives of whoever died for the sake of Allah. We congratulate these (martyrs themselves). There are black-eyed virgins ready for you. The martyr gets at least two of the virgins of Paradise. Imagine a black-eyed virgin embracing the martyr. While people carry the body to be buried, a black-eyed virgin is embracing him. We’re talking black-eyed virgins, man! . . . .Do you know what a black-eyed virgin is?”
Watch this and then tell me that this has nothing to do with religion — that it’s all based on “socioeconomic deprivation.” And tell me that Islam is a good thing.
If we ever get into World War III, it’s more than likely to involve religion. And while Karen Armstrong babbles on about the Ground of Being and the peacefulness of Islam, people like this are building bombs.

I’d like to say that I have had the pleasure of knowing a number of Muslim people. It is such a shame that their religion’s extremist fringe idiots (much like Christianity’s own fringe extremists) have managed to destroy the image of what is actually a very peaceful religion.
I think it’s more important to build your knowledge of a religion by educating yourself, rather than relying on stereotypes, first-impressions, and videos like the ones posted here.

Most countries treat the creationist theory as purely mythical, while also being held as sacred and culturally significant.
Holding onto any creationist-type legend as fact – like our own country seems to do – sends you back into the dark ages.
C’mon people… the Native Americans have some of the most beautifully recorded creationist stories I’ve ever read. My favorites are also from the Orient/Asian/Polynesian cultures.

I think what you are doing is mistaking your neighbors for the Muslim world at large. Believe it or not, just because they are the ones you have experience with does not mean they are a microcosm of Muslims as a whole. Or that there are no very large groups that preach violence.

I will willingly concede that there are a number of decent people within the Islamic faith. That is NOT in question.
I come across serene sounding terms like “silent majority” and I am offended by it. Silence beyond a point is tacit approval and hence culpability. I realize that this is a harsh statement. But I invite you to think about this:
Is is possible for a small and miniscule minority of muslims to be so violent and vociferous if it feared the censure and in-hospitality of a large majority?
This leads me to the conclusion that although a large majority of muslims are indeed decent folks, they are willing to condone acts done in the name of Islam by finding handy excuses and diversions.
This does not mean that these individuals are themselves evil. It only means that that their personal decency is no reflection is their collective callousness.
