Here’s the white lion!

I overestimated people’s ability to spot the white lion in yesterday’s post, probably because I knew where it is. It’s hunkered down in the grass with only its back showing, and the circle below shows you where it is:

A photo with the camera zoomed in to the max:

We’ll have more and better photos tomorrow. I took this intending it to be a “spot the” photo.  Soon we’ll have a double entendre photo: “spot the leopard.”

  1. The patterns stands out, but I cannot see any details in this one. Where is the snout, the ears, the tail? Would not have classified it as a lion.

      1. The color- and texture-matching of the white lion’s fur with the dried grass couldn’t have been better!

        1. I agree. It was superbly camouflaged. I even did some photo manipulation and contrast enhancement and edge detection, and though I thought that spot “suspicious” I could never go so far as to be even provisionally sure it was the lion…I thought I might easily have been missing it somewhere else.

I do imagine it would’ve been easier in 3-D, so to speak, but still, quite a challenge. Nice.

  2. That was one of the anomalous patterns that I saw that I thought could be it but even with it ringed I can only really make out lion features if I kind of squint a bit.
