Why Evolution is True is a blog written by Jerry Coyne, centered on evolution and biology but also dealing with diverse topics like politics, culture, and cats.
I noticed the “post comment” box looked different and the replies have all this “like” stuff. Maybe Facebook is taking over?
I must note that Lewis Hamilton, GB, won his 7th F1 Championship yesterday at the Grand Prix of Turkey. Any doubts as to how good this guy is should be over if you saw that race. The entire race in the rain on wet tires.
And he kept going on bald wet tyres rather than losing time coming in for a change of tyres. In spite of that he maintained his lap times – brilliant!
Actually, the lack of tread on the intermediate tyres towards the end would have helped. The racing line was drying out and it was becoming marginal that slicks would have been faster.
Yes, but still a risk if he were to deviate from the line for any reason, and also a gamble as a heavy rain shower was forecast within two laps of the end. However you look at it, a very good season for Hamilton & Mercedes. What chance a win of BBC Sports Personality of the Year, plus a knighthood, of course.
Hamilton’s achievements are remarkable. I would nevertheless prefer it if BBC Sports Personality of the Year awardees had to actually be resident in the UK for tax purposes, though. Ditto knighthoods etc.
I’m not trying to belittle Hamilton’s performance in any way, just discussing a technical point.
It was definitely the drive of a champion. Consider that, on Saturday, the Mercs were nowhere, as was Bottas yesterday. Once again, at the end, Hamilton was a pitstop ahead of second place.
I think there is a good case that he is the best F1 driver of all time.
