I believe this is a female emperor dragonfly (Anax imperator), rightly described as “bulky” by the website I used to check – this one was as large as my palm. It also says they don’t perch often, and I wonder if she knew what she was doing by choosing those plants that have a similar pattern to her thorax.
Can you see it? I’d judge this as “medium difficult.”

When the photo is enlarged the d’fly stands right out. Otherwise invisible.
I also found it by enlarging the photo and I wonder if that counts or is it considered cheating.
Strange, but that was the easiest one I’ve seen. Maybe I have an eye for dragonflies.
Got it – as others have noted it is quite easy to spot in the enlarged image, very difficult in the ordinary sized version.
Got it pretty much as soon as I zoomed in on the photo “actual size”. It’s almost impossible to see on my computer in the photo as it appears in my browser even when you know where it is.
Much easier than many. Pretty much jumped out at me, but it was in an orientation and perspective that my brain can recognize. A different orientation and I would likely have searched and not found it.
That was exactly the same as my experience.

My yard is currently hosting a surplus of these little characters. They appear to enjoy the relatively breeze-free conditions early in the morning and evening. I have no idea how they managed the heavy rains we have had. My cat enjoys them as well, although I have no idea how he is able to catch them.
Found it. Had to make the picture bigger for my old eyes.
