My grandmother always warned me that nothing good ever happens after 10 pm. (OTOH, the advice my grandfather gave me was that women were like streetcars; there’re fewer of ’em out late at night, but they run a lot faster.) 🙂
Just finished Dr. HST’s Generation of Swine. I was a high schooler in the 80’s, love his perspective and prescience reading it now. He mentions Trump even. His advice to Steadman re. Steadman’s errant child is hilarious. So much name dropping. I need my frickin’ iPhone (google) nearby to “get” some of his people rants.
My roundabout point, here was one manic man who didn’t and couldn’t and glad he didn’t live the “early” lifestyle.
Funny you should mention; I recently re-read Generation of Swine myself. And The Great Shark Hunt not long before that.
His is a voice for our times, a howl against what’s gone foul in the American spirit. And laugh-out-loud funny while he’s at it, no easy trick to pull off, that.

I, too, don’t have HBO. I join PCC in hoping some of you out there can help the technologically challenged.
The day after, bootlegs of Real Time often show up on Youtube. But they don’t last long. Also – some of these are not the show as labeled (no quality control amongst bootleggers, I guess). So take a quick glance at the comments to note any complaints about bogus content.

Is the show broadcast live?

@DD Real Time with Bill Maher airs in Real Time, on HBO, on Friday nights at 22:00 hrs east coast time [The show is physically in LA starting at 19:00 hrs their time]. It’s always dark outside** even in LA summer!
Then there’s a live 10 to 15 minute Overtime segment on YouTube [Live Streams], which answers questions posted by viewers through HBO’s online website for the show. I think Overtime is the best part of the show because the questions can be zingers – better than Maher’s usually.
I don’t think it’s carried live by other networks, but it’s available next day [or within a few days] on other channels worldwide such as Sky.
Why do all US shows of this type always display a fake window behind the hosts with a night time blue cityscape of LA or NYC? Is it in the Constitution?
That’s Seth Myers, Bill Maher, Stephen Colbert [has a classy little traffic jam too], Jimmy Kimmel [got a little club or restaurant on the roof of one building], Conan O’Brien [cheap abstract window view through huge blinds], Samantha Bee [weird orange/brown map], John Oliver, James Corden & Trevor Noah [Washington D.C.?].
Isn’t that cultural appropriation?
